£1.65 per litre for Optimax 99 was a bit of an eye-opner!
I am always pleased when anyone buys Shell, but are you not a fan of ESSO, to keep ethanol away from your Lagonda fuel system?
I think round here the Optimax is 0% ethanol, but I take your point. I'd also need to use a gallon of petrol to find an Esso station! I had water in the fuel system this time last year going for MOT in the rain, and it was much more damaging than a bit of ethanol, disassemble and remove fuel system, clean from end to end, replace pumps pipes and renovate valves, recondition tanks and ancillaries, refit. My 62 Rapide only has a 16 gallon tank so I'm not yet in £127 fill up territory, but it'll come...

First time I've driven any distance at night for a long time. God the lights are crap, and I have the HIDs!!
My understanding is that it is only the dipped beam (which I think is quite good although I've never driven a car with LED headlights) that is HID. Not sure what the main beam is. However, as soon as there is any condensation in the front of the light housing (as happens when spray hits the radiator pack) this diffuses the light and then they're definitely crap. A design fault that never got fixed despite the cars being made in a damp country.Just after I bought my V8V last month, I decided I wanted to go quiet(ish) when the mood took me, so I bought one of Clive's remote controls for Fuse 22.
That's when I found the valves were seized solid and no amount of penetrating oil would budge them.
So - I bought a secondhand rear silencer with good valves, with the intention of fitting it, then freeing off the valves on the original silencer and selling it on. Before fitting, I also polished it up a bit, as it looks like the silencer is visible from behind the car.
On Sunday, I took the car to my local friendly tyre & exhaust fitter, who with a bit of cussing and a lot more penetrating oil, managed to free off the original valves.
So - I now have a fairly shiny V8V backbox that's going on Ebay
I fitted the CCCharger remote and found that a gentle cruise is now pretty quiet - worthwhile mod.

The remote which I have, either keeps the exhaust valves open, or leaves them OEM. As the remote is simply the equivalent of taking out or replacing fuse 22, how can it keep the valves closed?
Is there perhaps now a revised version of the exhaust remote, which gives that third option?

I suspect Nigel is simply saying that compared to his old exhaust where the valves were sized open, he finds it pleasant to be able to cruise with them closed again.
The V8 engines do seem to be fairly quiet, when cruising at a steady speed with static throttle.
My 4.7 has one set of 400 cell cats, none in the manifolds (OEMs are 1300 each) and the exhaust valves are always open. Cabin sound level when cruising is acceptably low. The earth only shatters when accelerating. Cold start idle is louder than OEM, but I can close the exhaust valves at that engine speed if required.

The most flexible solution is
I see you shiver in antici……I was going to say Clive's 3 way switch, which has a memory and will remember the last setting it was in. So if you want to arrive home quietly and leave quietly, you pop it into quiet mode, then out on the open road, stick it in hooligan mode.
You do of course need the garage door opener rear view mirror buttons syncing with it. That way you are in full Bond mode.

This sounds like something I need, any idea where I could get one? And who is Clive?
https://www.cccharger.co.ukClive is the guy running the website and putting together the remotes. Been using it since almost two years now, great product.
