When I was a kid, my girlfriends uncle had a green DB7 GT. I must have been about 17. He let me sit in it - I nearly creamed myself. I was hooked. It wasn't long after that the Gen 1 Vanquish was released and Die Another Day was in the big screen. This didn't help my addiction.

One day - I went in to get my X-Type serviced and ended up walking out with a 4.3 V8. 27 years old. Years of busting my balls paid off.

Here's the first but certainly not the last.

Here is my first. Purchased last year. I owned a Porsche GTS Cab (991.2) prior to the Vanquish. Great car but not special enough. Before that, an F430 spider. That was special, hence kept it for 4 1/2 yrs. The Aston is certainly proving to be special enough and the colour certainly gets a lot of favorable comments. I'm hoping it's done most of its depreciating by now.

I never especially hankered after an Aston, but just went have a look at this one in the flesh having seen it advertised at a local main dealer. No regrets so far.

My father had a DB4 years ago which I thought was terrific. It was dubonnet red with a very light interior.
My mother hated it (too noisy & not enough room inside) and so he went back to Jag saloons after that.
I had all sorts of sports cars over the years which were fun in their various ways but nothing seemed as special as an Aston - hence I got this one (not quite dubonnet red but close).

This was my first one. Called it Kylie, because it was small hid its age well and had a gorgeous arse Took her for a test run back to back with a 4 year younger Jag XKR, She was old and dated compared to the jag, less powerful. But just the way the car looked and it made me feel. It could have had a morris minor engine in it. I still would have bought it, just for its stance and presence

My first Aston still is a DB9.2. I loved the original DB9 when it first launched. But I bought an SL55 instead because at the time I didnt have enough money, or kids, and Aston's in those days were not considered very reliable, whereas the merc was bulletproof. Had a few cars, kids, etc over the years but nothing truly sporty since.

A couple of years ago I decided it was time for another sporty car, but one that didn't attract too much attention that had 4 seats. Could never get onboard with the Porsche thing, not into the bling bentleys, so was doing a bit of head scratching. By coincidence (*cough*) watching a 5th Gear rerun one saturday morning in bed with the wife when a DB9 (I think it was a DBS shhh,) was being given the beans on some review. Got the blessing from 'er indoors to get an Aston and a couple of weeks later I found my perfect spec, black with black leather and silver stitch.

Have considered trading into a V12VSM or a Vanquish but I keep coming round to the fact that the DB9 hits that understated elegance perfectly, I know the car really well, and the .2s are actually quite rare. So unless I get a bigger garage things may stay this way for some time.

I remember seeing the spy shots of the V8 Vantage and thinking at the time that it was one of the most stunning looking cars I'd ever seen. I'd always liked the DB9, but the Vantage just seemed to take the design language one stage further. There was just nothing about it that didn't look perfect to my eye and I made a promise to myself that I'd buy one if I could ever afford it.

A few years later that became a possibility following a divorce, house sale and a permanent move into my girlfriend's house. After a brief search I bought the first car I went to see - a two-year old 4.3 in Meteorite Silver with less than 10k on the clock. I remember the day we picked it up - took the train up to London and did a few sights in the morning before collecting the car in the afternoon and driving back to Bristol. Felt completely unreal at the time to be actually driving home the car I'd always dreamed of owning. I know that plenty of people complain that the 4.3 is not particularly quick, but it was more than fast enough for my abilities and what it might lack in out-and-out performance, it always more than made up for in that sense of occasion when you got inside and turned on the engine.

I enjoyed it for a couple of years until I had to sell it when we got married and decided to buy a basket-case house renovation to get ready for having kids. At the time I thought I'd never be able to afford one again, but a few years ago I saw that prices had dropped to the mid-thirties, which coincided with an unexpected bonus at work and I now I have an almost identical car to my first one (which I don't intend to ever sell this time).

As a 60's child I always had a hankering for the DB5/6.

Eventually was in the unique position where I had the opportunity to make a decision between a primrose E type or DB9 Volante in 2010 - I went for the Aston, which was probably not as lucrative as an investment but is just far easier to live with as a Summer toy.

I then bought a Cygnet, and have finished the 'oilit' collection with a Vanquish.

I love all three for different reasons, but not sure I will buy another new gen AM - more likely to get a DB5/6.

The Aston is the only performance GT car I have ever driven that people let you out at junctions, people don't try to race you, and more often than not they pull over from the outside lane on motorways to let me pass - it's a great brand that I am grateful to be a member of in my own little way.

I don't have my first... yet. AM weren't really a brand I knew much about until 2016 when my Dad bought a new DB9 GT...

Totally fell in love with it. Not that I could afford anything like that unless the business does particularly well!

However, I now spend a lot of time looking at V8s at around the £40k mark wishing I didn't do 35-40k miles a year. It'd have to be a weekend car and again, that's not particularly likely in the short term with the arrival of my daughter and a wife who isn't going back to work.

Loving the pictures and the stories here though, and I do have the 2020 Aston Calendar on the wall next to my desk.

Edit: Just to agree with what oilit said above, people appreciate it, let you out at junctions and don't think you're a tosser in a flash car the majority of the time, unlike the likes of a bright yellow Lambo of similar value. It has class.

What a great thread, I really enjoy reading the personal anecdotes about the build up to ownership, and the journey. Well done avc2014 for kicking this one off.

Watching an episode of top gear in about 2004 they raced a DB9 against a train from Guildford to Monte Carlo, I declared (to no one in particular) that I was going to have one of them!! Took a fair few years to save up but now I have a weekend car that I love and if they ever need someone to step in and be the next James Bond then I feel a little more qualified

I own a 2005 DB9, bought in 2010. The only Aston I have owned.

When I was 11 I would watch the TV show The Persuaders in which Roger Moore drove a DBS V8. When the show was over I would cycle down the road to my local garage HW Motors in Walton on Thames and press my nose to the windows. I dreamed of driving an Aston one day. So it was quite an event for me when around 40 years later I found myself test driving , buying, and driving away in a DB9 from the very same garage still located in the same spot. My 11 year old self was with me that day, it was quite emotional.

As a nipper in the 70’s I always wanted an Aston. My poster car, the V8’s.

On a school trip up to London me and a friend slipped away and dribbled over the showroom windows of the Dealer at or near Sloane Square. We plucked up the courage to step inside at one point, we were immediately turned around and kicked out. Shocking behaviour.

So 12 years ago I eventually bought my dream car, a V8 X Pack. Still have it and added a DBS V in 2011 and a V12v 2 yrs ago.

Can’t post pics for sone reason.
