So the car is now finished in my eyes and I’ve been offered a v12 vantage by my friend.

Should I sell this and go for the v12?

Short answer: YES

Medium sized answer: see about reverting to a more normal setup and selling the parts

Long answer: recurrent joke on here that V8 owners should never test drive a V12 as they'll see what they really want and forget they have a superb car already.

having owned a V8 with minor mods (nothing like OP's) then driven a V12 and now owning one( which I love) John G1 is right in his last statement

I will play devils advocate here... I test drove the v12 and the v8. Bought the v8! Yes, the v12 is a wonderful thing, but for how I use my car, the v8 was better suited. How do I use my car? Hard. Track days and fast road. For the track, I wouldnt want the carbon ceramics, or the weight of the v12. For the road, I want to drive the car hard, and the v12 it is just too much power and too fast, so it ends up being a more leisurely drive, especially when it is wet. V8 was therefore more rewarding. Also, if I desperately wanted a v12 for the sake of having a v12, I would save up and buy a Ferrari v12!

Fitted new vantage S wheels to it as I think if I’m going to sell it, it’ll need a more road going style wheel to attract people. It’s sitting too low for this type of wheel, it’s set up for the 18” oz wheels.

Still looks nice in my opinion

Do I see red calipers rear and silver or grey calipers front?
Unique perhaps.

You do indeed, you shouldn’t paint these GT4 front callipers as it aids in the heat escaping. I’d prefer them in red but don’t want to ruin the value of them if I ever come to sell them separately

Tell me the secret. How are you able to drive your V8 hard?

It is suggested that mine now has about 450 bhp.
I accelerate for a only a few seconds in 2nd gear, change into 3rd and immediately I am driving at an illegal speed.
I have only used half the gearbox. There are still three more gears left, but I back off.

Obviously different when track driving, but I fail to see the reason for a road car with 600/700 bhp.
The words use it and licence, do not seem to be compatible.

I agree with Dewi on the power available.

I had a 2007 roadster with 380bhp. So, the slowest and least capable of the previous generation Vantage, and it was always an object lesson on restraint. Amble along at 50mph or so, I put my foot down and in no time at all I am at 100mph and way beyond. The car felt and sounded great but it would have cost me my license if I was not careful. How people can use 600bhp / 700bhp on the road is beyond me. Maybe a Vantage geared more acceleration rather than top speed might be more fun to use. Say 130mph top speed and 0-100 in 8 seconds.130mph is still way more than you could ever use safely on the road. Who uses or needs 175mph (in the slowest car in the whole range)?
I have a Lotus Elise that I thrash about in and while I can still do silly speeds in it, I can also have real fun at sensible speeds. I really think that when driving, acceleration, braking and quick direction changes are more useful and rewarding than the top speed.
I am not saying this as some fun killing pedant. I love cars and I love driving fast - often faster than I should, but there are illegal speeds and there are really dangerous speeds. Modern cars do such a wonderful job of insulating us from the rest of the environment that we often don't get any feedback from them until we are at triple digit speeds. Give these cars 600+ bhp and we have a whole load of pointless cars.
I guess it won't end until speed restrictors are fitted to all new cars - which will ruin things for all of us.

What im reading here is that all V12 ownes with around 600bhp are going to ruin it for everyone else, amazing how its only V8 owners who have this thought or reasoning. Come on get a grip, your every day Ford Focus can reach 130mph or even 150mph is a warm one, and your Lotus Elise is just as quick and could have your licence relieved from you by Plod. You dont have to put your foot down from 50mph and be at 100mph, you have the control, its not something that automatically happens without your input.

I largely agree with what say - even mundane cars can reach silly speeds. I also have a Vauxhall Corsa sting with a whopping 75bhp, and I am astonished at the rate it can cover ground with a lot less horsepower than Triumph Vitesse.
You are of course right that control is the key ( I haven't yet lost my license !) It's just that cars are getting faster and more powerful at a rate not seen before. Whereas I could occasionally floor the throttle on my 380bhp Aston for a few seconds and get away with it, I doubt I could do the same in a car with nearly twice the power. For me, having a car that I could not exploit full power under any circumstances at any time, would be pointless.

Having said all that, I wouldn't say no to a V12 Vantage roadster on my drive!

Not long before that. All cars manufactured after 6th July this year, I think.

Initially can switch it off each time the engine is started, but if anything seriously nasty happens, insurers will be checking the diagnostic system and could decline claims.

Big brother is getting bigger. We will still have our pre-July cars to enjoy though.
Hello officer. "I wouldn't even think about exceeding any speed limits anyway."

Its quite clear that different folks want different power - enough for some is too much for others and not enough for the rest .

What makes me laugh is someone who has a standard V8 , tuning it and then going on about how " now that it is 450bhp I don't know why you'd want anymore " smile

Torque is the biggest advantage the v12 has over the v8 . You don't need to rev it to make progress. But if you do rev it ...smile
