My Aston Martin DB7 Vantage is worthless but I love it...

Thank you everybody !
Yes, driving this car is always special to me and I really have the feeling to deserve every second spent sit on the driver seat
Overall it's no so hard to work on it especially when you are motivated by the passion we have for the car.
I read that I'm no the only one that felt in love with it's design. yes the Db9 seems to be more achieved, it's an "improved" version of the db7 which is a project with "little" money to happen. I'm a huge fan of the front face of the db7, but I confess that I'd rather have the boot of the db9 and it's general proportions that are closer to perfection. But hey... Would I exchange it? Not sure.

Yes. I think the overall silhouette of the DB7 is better but would prefer some darker rear lights without the amber.
Interesting to see how Ian Callum etc. evolved the front end:
Vanquish takes the line from the bottom of the A pillar to the edges of the grille and puts the lights in the wings which looks cleaner.
Then the DB9 has the bonnet going all the way to the grill removing the shut line across the front.
Then with DB11 they went for a full clamshell with no shut lines which is what Ian Callum had intended for the DB7 all along.
Then on the New Vantage they mucked it up completely with shut lines all over the place.

The Vanquish ! It's strange how I can love the db7 and find it's litte daughter quite wrong... It's like Ian took the db7 design and found every way to evolve them... A litte wrong
I can understand that opinions vary on this subject of course, there may be people who find the Vanquish way nicer than the db7

Worthless? No way. Its worth is evident in the hours of labour you put in, and the immense satisfaction it has given you in the end.
Congratulations on even contemplating such a daunting task. You clearly have a lot of patience and a great ability to see past short term frustrations to the long term goal! It is wonderful to see how passionate Aston Martin owners can be.

Really moved by your replies thank you very much!
Frankly, I'm in awe of your dedication and ability. In terms of true enthusiast, you are head and shoulders above those with large wallets and deep pockets for whom fleetingly owning an Aston is just part of a serial progression that moves from a Ferrari to a Porsche, a Maserati, an R8, a McLaren, and so onThank you very much mates ! The car doesn't worth very much due to the lack of history and the "high" mileage (141 000km) but for me it is a very important car. It even became important for my wife that couldn't let me sell it if I had to
Footage of her before her first drive (quite cahotic, the manual vantage is quite difficult to tame) :

The car is not worthless, it will have much more worth to you and your wife for all the hard work and dedication you have put into this project. It's a keeper!
Thank you! I'm now waiting to have a lift installed at home (the good question is...Where?) to continue the restoration (next step : bushings, rods & co...)The car is not worthless, it will have much more worth to you and your wife for all the hard work and dedication you have put into this project. It's a keeper!
Fantastic commitment and determination, and working in a small space with no lift too, that's not easy!
This is the essence of what being a true petrol head is all about, thanks for creating the video and sharing your project.
You have taken on something most professional mechanics wouldn't tackle, and through your hard work and resourcefulness put another beautiful Aston Martin back on the road.
Respect

I have really enjoyed reading this thread and watching your great video Stalje. The DB7 has such fantastic lines. Worthless, never!
Mind you I wouldn't say the Vanquish was the DB7's little sister lol.
I have a two post lift, the best piece of garage equipment I have ever bought. Wish I'd had it 40 years ago when I spent my 20's crawl
ing under cars getting rust in my eye's.
Keep up the good work.
