Ordered a new 992s for Q1 next year to coincide with a big birthday, which unfortunately for Aston Martin beats the Vantage in every way IMO. Nowhere near as cheap a deal, but just as excited. Isn’t that what driving these toys is all about?
I previously owned a 991.2 convertible and would say the car is better than an Aston in most ways. The big point you are missing is the pride of ownership factor, which was why the 991 went in favour of my current car - a Vanquish II Volante, better in many ways than the 991. (Not a Vantage - agreed, but the Aston principle still applies)

Slightly off topic but lucky to have had 2 Vantages in the past then Porsche Boxster GTS, Macan Turbo and 911 GTS Convertible now back with Aston.

Porsche are very good cars have all the bits you need but are boring to drive on the UK roads, on all three you will be in second gear until past 70 MPH on a spirited drive, even at the Porsche centre you stay in second gear around the track.

It's an itch worth scratching, been there done it and moved on just waiting for the 2022 updates which I believe will incorporate the DBX instruments and get rid of the laptop stuck on the dashboard.

Interesting comments on the 2022 updates, where did you hear that from? If it’s ‘22 model year, when would that be for ordering ?

When my car went in for a low level oil sensor leak at my local AM dealer the sales guy asked why I was not interested in swapping to a newer model and the answer was that that I did not like the laptop info screen. He then stated that this will be fixed in model year 2022 but could just be sales talk.

The internal '22 changes document was shared with me, for the US anyway. No mention of updated dash or change in infotainment. CarPlay not mentioned for any model. Most of it was retraction of options in effort to streamline the manufacturing line. I actually doubt the '23 facelift of Vantage and DB11 is happening rather than just replacement with new EV models in '25. Not thrilled, but time will tell I guess.

I'd like to add that after hearing the rumblings, I tried to order a manual Vantage this spring, but was told that the '22 order book was closed for those. How do you announce canceling something for '22 but closing the book on it in the 1st quarter of '21? I was really bummed. Esp since all the manuals I've seen listed in US are low-spec, or were ordered by Stevie Wonder.

It does make you wonder if any planned updates might be now at risk of being quietly shelved.

AML have been in the press this week for quadrupling their turnover due to how well DBX has sold. It seems Vantage sales are on the up too, perhaps helped by the new F1 edition. The cost of update programmes is large, especially to the level that people are wanting and perhaps expecting on the latest era of cars.

To put the DBX dashboard in, for example, would be a hugely expensive update as so much would need to change to accommodate it. The previous era cars only had the 'waterfall' (centre section of the dashboard) changed, the IP remained the same throughout. Anywhere where airbags are concerned and it's also likely to require new crash testing. It's the same for the front end of the car, people expecting a facelift to address the lights and do more than the recent updated grille, it's all subject to pedestrian impact testing and potentially more crash testing which bumps the cost up further. Spread that over Vantage, DB11 and DBSS and it looks very expensive.

If these models are only running until around 2025 then it may be that someone's making the decision on whether changes would generate enough sales to recover the program cost and be profitable. I would put my money on some slight interior changes, upgraded infotainment software and carplay but on the same hardware, even more new wheel options and perhaps a slightly revised front/rear bumper akin to the previous Vantage updates around 2010/11. I hope I'm wrong, but let's see.

They havnt said the DB11 and Vantage will be discontinued in 2025, only that one of those two models will have an EV version available at that point. 2030 is the date for new models isnt it? So any investment in a revised dash etc, would have a longer period to pay back than just 3-4yrs from now.

Another AMR New Vantage owner here.

Have to say fabulous car, yes a few annoying things but overall I love it. Had it over a year, 4K miles approx

I live in central London, easy to drive in town and fun out of town.

Big fan as you can see!

The two interviews/articles I have seen state that Vantage and DB11 will be replaced in '25. Prob hit streets by '26.

New Vantage manual owner here. No issues whatsoever in the few months I’ve owned it. Manual box is really engaging and makes you feel part of the driving experience, for me anyway. Changes are a bit notchy but once you get used to the 7-speed dog leg it works a treat. The rev matching function is superb when pressing on a bit.
I loved the new Vantage since launch from all angles except the front. It has grown on me but when a manual came up for sale with the new vane grill I was hooked and pulled the trigger.
Happy motoring chaps in whatever version you have.

Just seen this.

Is this the twin message along the lines of “oil level sensor fault” and “check engine oil level”? Red lights which self-correct after anywhere from 30secs to 5mins of driving?

If so: what was the fix, what was the cost and where did you get it sorted?

ETA: Vanquish or former shape Vantage; if the latter V12 or V8?

Just like to add to this thread, I have had one for 3 months now and it is my first ever Aston. I have to say I think it is absolutely stunning and in another league completely to anything I have ever had. The last car was a Nissan GTR, technically it is not as fast but imo it handles and drives a lot better, albeit I am not a racing driver and so not qualified to give a proper opinion.
I really like the interior - I am a fan of buttons and switches rather than having to work your way through menus! The sat NAV and infotainment may be a little bit clunky but it is fine for my needs.
So far it has been an absolute pleasure to own and drive. I must admit that it is obviously a different looking car to the classic Aston shape but for me that was its main selling point. It was a lot of money for me (£98k for a December 19 model with 4K miles) but after having the GTR for 12 years I wanted something a bit more modern - albeit I have to admit I do really like the earlier models as well.
My wife never really liked driving the GTR but loves the vantage so that is a big plus and hopefully we can do some decent road trips in it - we have a 300 mile trip to Wales planned for next weekend.
In short it is all a matter of personal opinion and also if you can afford it - I am 56 and could have either paid my mortgage off or bought the car outright - the mortgage can wait. You only live once and who knows what is around the corner.
One query I have is about the stereo - I have the standard one which I am not over enamoured with (I had had a very good after market upgrade in the GTR). Can anybody give an opinion if the B&O option is much better as I may see if I can get this retro fitted or alternatively would you suggest a completely different aftermarket upgrade, albeit I would be wary of letting anybody loose on the car if they hadn’t worked on one before. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations, i think that is a great shot of the vantage - and nice to see it in a colour different to grey or black!!

I would try James at Astoninstallations about a stereo upgrade.

Just an update from the OP.

I am playing with the configurator on the roadster. I think in this guise and with the slated grill it looks fantastic.

I too will not be black or grey, so many nice reds and greens to choose from....

Any roadster owners on here?

I will check out the '22 upgrades with my dealer to see if the are actually going to happen. Would like a manual though as its a weekend car...

It's not actually by B&O. The premium Aston Martin system is made by an Italian company called ASK audio that specialise in OEM audio solutions. I thought it quite good.

I have driven a new Vantage, but I have never heard the sound system, but it has been cited as a weak point. Without meaning to harp on, as far as I know the previous gens Premium Audio was made by Alpine I think (happy to be corrected on that though!) and by and large it’s very very good. Many actually prefer it to the Bang and Olufsen set up. Regarding the OPs last post, I don’t recall seeing anyone post a Roadster picture on here. There are currently a few cars for sale on the AM Pre-Owned site, and it does look rather good in that guise. I’m not sure you’ll be able to get a manual gearbox though. As far as I know the Roadster was launched as auto only, and I thought AM had dropped the manual option from the whole Vantage range now.

Best Regards

Minglar
