I’ve been offered a 2013 Vanquish with a whisker under 30k on the clock for £65k. It’s had 4 owners and benefits from full main dealer service history.

It’s not that close to me so before I make the journey I’d like to get thoughts on if the above sounds good value and are the earlier cars ok? Any pointers for what I should look out for?

I had put a deposit on a DB11 but the one I had set my heart on didn’t work out as planned so now I’m considering my options. I have been searching for a Vanquish that is 2015 or newer with the later software and gearbox. Am I better waiting for a later car and spending circa 20–25k more?

The car will be mostly for weekends and trips away with my wife and two young children (both in booster seats) but I have quite a few cars so won’t be clocking up that many miles. Luckily I have a very well regarded Aston Specialist very close to where I live so I’m sure that will be useful.

I've had a Vanquish, interestingly at the time of ownership I was given a DB11 for a long weekend by my dealer. I took it back after 1 day and happily went home in the Vanquish. Chalk and cheese really, the Vanq has a better sound and a much more "pleasant" interior, I just find the DB11 interior "busy" and dont think I could get used to messy single dial on the dash. The DB11 is quicker, but the sound isn't anywhere near as good as the Vanq and just doesnt feel as special as the Vanq. Just my opinion!

Any 2013-on Vanquish is going to feel more special than a DB11, and I speak as a DB11 owner.

Why put another 20k into the marginally better (2 more ratios = improved touring mpg and slightly faster on paper acceleration and top speed) 8-speed if you will barely use the car? - the real difference is with the S, these are keeping a high premium.

If it’s in good condition, and you like the spec, go for it! what a bargain! - It’s almost certain to never be worth less than you pay for it, and in a few years, possibly significantly more.

Another one for the Vanquish though I do own an S so maybe biased smile
I can't ever see a good quality Vanquish dipping much if at all below £60k I really think that will be the floor...but who knows.
I see the DB11 in a similar vane as the the DB9, a very good car but nothing to make it stand out and remain special over the longer term. It will always be overshadowed by the DBS in a similar way the Vanquish has been held in higher regard to the DB9.
The 2015MY is a better car, no doubt about it BUT can you justify the extra for what will be limited use? Had this been your main 'special car' then I would say push for the later upgraded version but as its going to sit alongside a few other nice cars I'm not sure it's worth it. The better fuel.economy is good though as it does give a real world 400+ range to a full tank when cruising bigger distances. Not sure what the 6 speed can realistically achieve but certainly high 20's and even 30mpg is possible with rhe 8 speed. I've averaged 28+ mpg on a 2000 mile french tour holiday last summer.

I know I've said this elswhere, but my 2015 Vanquish returned this MPG between Macclesfield and Ashford, Kent on three different trips.
Cruise set at 70mph.

I think you probably should test drive an older Vanq, a later Vanq (probably an S as its the most significant upgrade over the early cars), and a DB11.

They are all really quite different and you probably need to work out what it is that you are looking for. The Vanq S is the ultimate analogue car out of the 3, far surpassing either of the other two in aural input and driving experience. AMi III infotainment (MY16-17) is leaps ahead of either the earlier AMi I or II and also the later MB system fitted to the DB11. The DB11 is probably the more rounded comfort and capable car when pushed at the limits, but it lacks many of the special things that both earlier Vanq's will offer.

Which of those matter is very subjective. I know which matter to me, and hands down I would take the latest Vanq S you can afford, but the things that matter to me may not feature on your radar at all.

So only you can decide on which is the "best" for you.

I have just gone through the same process and I am delighted with my 23k 2014 Vanquish. I picked it up and drove 370 miles home on a single tank. And the sound is amazing. It may not do 200mph on the Autobahn but this was not a deal breaker. Buy on condition and get a PPI.

When both cars where still on the AML catalogue, I had the opportunity to drive a DB11 and Vanquish S back to back at an event organised by my French dealer.
The Vanquish S was so much more involving and felt much more special than the DB11 which was more like a big comfortable GT. I prefer the interior of the Vanquish too. I’d take even an earlier non S Vanquish over the DB11.

The Vanquish, at 3k miles a year, is in a sweet spot for me. At least it’s been driven (presuming 29k miles wasn’t just done in the first year), so should be in good running order if maintained on the nose. Hopefully it has a Timeless warranty? I can’t see that dropping much more (don’t quote me wink ) and it’s much lower volume.

You can always play the “if you add £20k more” game. But to me, it seems like great value and if it’s the spec you like, just go for it. Life’s too short.

Interesting thread.

I’ve been looking at 2014 Vanquish with 9,500 miles- and a 2018 DB11 with 34,000 miles and trying to think which to go for.

I only do about 5,000 miles per annum now so really undecided

That is not a 2014 car. That’s a noughties car. I hope you haven’t bought it thinking it’s 2014.

All that I know about the Newport Pagnell Vanquish, is what has been posted.

There was an unfortunate tale about someone who bought a car, then discovered the front steel subframe had rotted.
That became an expensive fix.

Sounds as though there is less alloy involved in construction, than the later Gaydon cars.

Id have a look round AM dealers if I were you, dont limit yourself to the two a LR dealer is selling.

Would I be put off by a db11 - well not my preference but many here love them.

Would i be put off by an AM with 34k miles in 4yrs. No, as the cars will eaisly do that, however 34k in 4yrs is huge mileage for any AM so i sure would make sure it was the very cheapest one in the country for its age!
