@ cardigankid:

Sure i am overexposed to Porsche - thats why i buy english

and for the AM V8 the car is already at my dealer in Cologne - so my trip to the factory ends there

BTW the RRS (Disco 3) is really a very cool car.

Now we just need taffyracer to show us where he got his times from, because all the results shown so far don't indicate the Porsche or M6 being that much faster, if at all, over the V8.[/quote]

Don't understand why everyone is so defensive, I expressed an opinion, the M6 can be had for 64k, the 996 for similar money and the AMV8 is 15k more or so, thats pretty much fact, so the others are cheaper to buy. I have no comparable times and I don't need them, I have driven all 3 on many occasions, on road and more importantly on track as unlike most I actually know how to do that, and in my opinion I think the other 2 are faster cars, which at the end of the day is all it is.

I have always loved Aston's and i like the V8 very much and think it's a thing of sublime beauty but for me that doesn't justify the extra, again opinion, I am allowed that I believe!

What did you expect this is the Aston Martin section of the forum!

The AMV8 must be the cheapest Car Evo have ever run as a Long Term Test, in 7 months and 5849 miles, Costs: £0, Consumables: £0, Extras £0, Depreciation: £0. So cheap as chips then really!

well honestly my new Aston will be a good deal:

Price here in Krautland 119.000.-- Euros
My dealer will take the car back in August 2007 for 109.000.-- Euros with 10.000 kms
and hopefully i will get my AM V8 roadster then

I fixed this today and i will pic up the car on thursday !
AND THATS A BETTER DEAL THAN A PORSCHE 997S or a BMW serie 6!

I'm pretty sure if people starting poking holes in whatever you drive (strangely absent from your profile!) you'd get defensive about its positive points..

10k euro loss thats pretty amazing id say, i like the sound of your car dealer. But what does he expect to do? Sell it next year for list or stripe someone up on finance? I would put money on the second option if we were talking uk dealers.

a bit different here in Krautland - according to my dealer he could have sold 50 cars this year - but got only 22 delivered from AM.

Read this thread with interest.

Over supply and 'big volume is best' are Ford diseases. They've made a hash of the Ford brand itself with these malaises. It's worse for "PAG" product. Making the aspirational achieveable removes the aspirational value. Look what Ford did to Jaguar with their 200,000 units pa unit target? Derivative fleet fodder (S Type) ...re-badged Mondeos (X Type) ...lack of flair in 'true Jag' ranges (XJ/XK).

Aston Martin has got off lightly so far. The first 5 year plan to hit 5,000 units pa may well have been a success ...but what about the next 5 years and beyond? A 4-door... EVERY 4-door supersaloon in history (Quattroporte, S-Class AMG, Espada, 400i, Lagonda) depreciates like a Lebanese property portfolio. SUV anyone? To take on Porsche head-on needs more than a pretty car at the same price point.

The AMV8 is a lovely looking car but they should have made half as many of them. Comical that the Russian Business Boy at TVR is on record as wishing to emulate Aston's 5K units plan.

Not quite the same for TVR thought... Aston is a world renowned brand.. TVR despite wishful thinking isnt.. they need to get into the US market long term.

Cars depreciate, thats fact.. I cant see the point of this depreciation pissing competition.

Aston has over-supplied, a typical Ford (and GM for that matter) behaviour. The big car co's have been so big for so long they think they're outside the laws of economics. The motoring media has got carried away lauding Ford and Bez because everybody loves Aston Martin (me too!). IMHO, Ford hasn't been that bright or good for Aston long term. Speculator-fuelled waiting lists are fool's gold - behind every speculator is a 'real' customer. Once the speculators have rinsed the cars through, you're left with the true size of the market. The V8 has had patchy reviews that have also taken some momentum/heat out of demand.

I'm certainly not holding TVR up as any kind of model. Aston's pursuit of the Porsche segment (Bez's revenge?) seemed a bit daft to me. As I said, for Moleskins to then choose Aston's growth/model as some kind of benchmark was frankly comical.

What's more impressive, is that in an opinion, the V8 is the slowest, and yet black and white figures show this not to be true ?

What should we believe, an opinion, or fact ?

Maybe you need some more practice in the V8 to get the best from it ? Would be suprised though as extracting the best from a Porsche takes more talent than extracting the best from the V8.

Anyway, the arguement is null as the quicker V8 will be out soon which will place it where it should have been at launch

And there was me thinking it was a road car. For road use, by average drivers on typical road surfaces, weather etc.

I've had an idea.

I'll supply the circuit, you supply the M6, 997S and whatever else you'ld like to throw in the pot and I'll drive them all.. flat out. Then I will publish my completely honest and unbiased AMV8 owning opinion.

It won't solve the problem but I'll have a great time.
