The Porsche vs. Aston jibes

Is it just me or are Porsche owners becoming more and more bitter in their contributions to the Aston Martin forum?
Rather like a ME109 pilot seeing a Spitfire in their mirror...

I must say I find it increasingly amusing at the attempts to knock the marque at any opportunity (we all know who I'm talking about)
So why are they always on the offensive?
Do they feel threatened, intimidated by the new kid on the block or just have the green eye of envy?
Do they have ownership experience to back up their claims? ...very rarely
It's a fact that most car owners on PH are passionate about their chariots and I'm no exception. I admit my V8 is not the 'perfect' automobile, but pretty damn close in my eyes.
Yes, there are quicker cars from A to B, yes there are cars that handle slightly better at the limit, yes the branding of Aston Martin comes at a premium.
So why don't I buy a Porsche instead?
Lack of Soul... in my eyes a Porsche is clinical like a surgeon in the way it carries out it's tasks, an amazing piece of machinery, one of the best engineered and designed cars around today, but do they excite my senses... no
Would I own one... maybe one day, but probably not?
Let me give you analogy, if your cars were your wives, would you say to someone,
"here mate, your Mrs is pig ugly, got a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp"
well some of you might, but in my opinion owning a car is a very personal choice, so I respect that. I may not agree with their choice, but I respect the fact that have made a choice. As said on another thread, One mans Claudia Schiffer is a another mans Liz Hurley...

I personally have no experience of driving either, lust after both, and would have to say they are not directly comparable.
Porsche is focussed on performance imho. Yes, there is a pose factor to them, but they are designed to be a drivers dream. Aston's are designed to be an all round sensary assault. They are fast, although not as fast as a Porsche, but the noise and looks are in another league.
In respect of their assault on the Aston at every opportunity, I cant help but feel Porsches have become a status symbol purchased because its a Porsche, not because of its performance by a lot of people. In that sense, the Aston's limited numbers makes it a higher status symbol and thats got to annoy them.
It seems to me that many Porsche owners have become Aston owners, but few Aston owners have become Porsche owners, (apart from those who got a V8 as a stopgap to a 997 Turbo or 997 GT3).
I was looking at the 997 GT3 at the weekend, and it looks like a chavved up Saxo, compared to the V8. It may be one of the fastest and best driving cars around, but cummon, those fins, are they appealing to anyone with a sense of taste? (It made me think of a Clarksonism

Shady, I think the media are to blame, all the magazines seem to directly compare the AMV8 with the 911. I'm a long term owner of Pork & still love the cars for their integrity & drving experience. But I am also loving the Aston, it makes a very refrshing change from Pork & is better in some ways worse in others.
I think Aston have done an amazing job pulling the V8 out the hat, to so nearly match the 997S dynamically whilst retaining the "special" Aston Martin automotive experience (looks, interior, exclusivity, sound) is nothing short of amazing first time out. But then the German MD had a major hand in designing the 993 911!

Good answer. I agree with every word. And if you can afford to buy a new Aston no need to exhibit insecurity afterwards.I might just buy both then!
I am a P996TT owner (7/2004). Very impressed with the capabilities of it in terms of cornering, revving and hunting others here on our autobahn (mostly seeing them disappear in the rear mirror, though...).
BUT: Went to the next AM dealer, saw a DB9 in the flesh and was hit by lightning. Jesus, that car is georgeous ! For me being 2m tall it would have to be the DB9, though and not the V8. Thinking about buying a black one with red leather interior and bamboo wood. The wife will kick me...
Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But anyone I show pictures of the Aston to, says: What a beautiful car. That's it. Stunning. Nothing like the rather brutal touch of Lambos and Ferraris, more elegant and timeless, an optimum in terms of design to me. Congrats, Mr Bez and Mr Fisker !

I Dont think many Porsche owners would do that. I would give my left lung for a V8 Vantage. Guess what I drive(ok its an old one)
I don't understand why somebody would run down an Aston.Perhaps they may prefer the way a 997S handles and they are entitled to their opinion.
However if they start trashing other car manufacturers like Aston I would imagine that they bought the P car for the badge and they feel like their street cred is damaged by admitting something else out there is an option.
