Have just purchased a Vantage - lovely car but the belts/tensioner squeals for about 15 minutes after starting from cold.

Have any others experienced this problem and has it been sorted out?

Yes, mine suffered exactly that prob. It was an early car and as has been well docuemented, it suffered MANY early teething problems this being one of them. It was fixed by the factory who said that they had 'fitted a new main belt'. Whether that is all they did I'll never know but the problem was cured and never returned.

Might be worth noting how old the car is. The maybe searching for Pugsey's posts and having a word with the supplying dealer (assuming it wasn't bought private).

Car should still be under warranty regardless.

I had this annoying problem.. Ist thing I tried was changing idler pulleys (when removed the bearing sounded slightly rough and after prizing out the grease sheilds they were a little dry.) New ones cost only £7.00 and easy to fit. It seemed ok for a while (took it it out for a test drive and the squeal had gone.

Next outing the noise was back... did the 3rd Idler pulley... still squealed.. changed the belt still squealed ... tok the tensioner off and checked the bearing and regreased it.. better... but the damn noise was still there. So it cost me about a hundred pounds, third degree burns , scratches and cuts caused by cable ties to my arms and much frustration... nothing worse than having a car that turns heads because it sounds like a 1974 Austin allegro on a frosty morning !!

I narrowed it down to the power steering pump pulley... careful administration of some 3 in 1 behind the pulley onto its shaft and the noise has disappeared. Its been ok since the weather has been fine and the car has been used more so I think it may be one of those things that appear with lack of use.

Hope this helps.

Just to clear up any confusion - that I may have caused! - my car was a V8V. I now realise that you may be talking about a different model?

My apologies - should have told you it is a V8 Vantage. Brand new as well.

Mine didn't so much squeal as intermittently squeak a bit when first firing up. The service guys made a couple of quick adjustments on the first service and all fine now. Suggest you just get them to adjust the belts.

AMV8 '06 Model from new same problem, back under warranty 3 times, problem remains...as does squealing brakes....as does stiff gearchange. Dealer constantly promising factory solution...waiting still, one year old next month, all this reported after 2 days of ownership.......be prepared to be fogged off!

I know this kind of doesn't help - my Mar 07 doesn't do it.

The "helpful" bit is that it *must* therefore be curable...

Yep. And I repeat, mine went back to factory and was sorted first time.

ColB2. You're not kicking your dealer hard enough! Who is it - they sound useless. Over a year is just not on. Go straight to the factory. I always found them v. helpful.

I was told initially it was the wrong silicone content in the belt, then pulley misalignment, then pulley corrosion, then AC Pump, told belts have been changed and everything checked out....still makes the noise. I'm even quizing myself as to it being alikened to clutch spigot noise sometimes?.....Drives fine just remains annoying.

Brakes squealed after only a few hundred miles, have been manually deglazed (as AM recommend) and car driven to AM's recommended manner. Last time from the dealer I had 32 miles before the noise came back.

Told as of last week the oil change that offers a solution for the stiff gearchange is still not factory approved and so the dealer won't change it until given the OK.

All annoying irritations and leaves one suspecting between the dealer and the factory. One thing for sure if the aim is to increase sales these small issues need to be dealt with quickly as bad news spreads faster than good.....not only on PH site.

Sorry, we've cross posted! See my edit above. STRONGLY recommend you speak direct to factory - and change dealer!

Your dealer is talking bollox about the gearchange.

I had mine done with the "new" new oil and also had the linkage changed. This has really transformed the gearchange. It's still a bit reluctant to engage 2nd when cold but overall the change is very worthwhile.

Yep I can confirm the talking bollox on the gearbox oil front too - my car was in for some interior squeaks to be cured last week, and the dealer changed the oil without me asking. The change feels far smoother now, not that I had a problem with how it used to be...

Just to add my 2p worth in to the debate; I hear the belts squealing from time to time on my car, doesn't worry me too much - the breaks squeak too, but again, not the end of the world

There is an easy fix to the brake squeal (reported on several posts in here). Just take it out and thrash it for 15 mins. Worked perfectly for me.

Any excuse eh?

I too have some intermittant belt noise. On my 'to do' list for it's one year service next month.

Thanks for the heads up gents. Been onto factory today and they have fixes for brake squeal by way of anti-squeal shims that are bonded to back of pads, stiff gearchange to be sorted with gearlever modification changeparts and new Castrol oil. The belt groan is misalignment of Power Steering pulley fixed with shims behind the pulley flange.
All available under warranty and dealer now booked car in to effect the lot with factory blessing.....Here's hoping it all works
Thanks again.

ColB2 - the chages to the gearshift are very noticeable. I've had mine back for a week now and it's much improved.

ColB2,

All of those items you list are replicated in my car so thanks for the info; I'll be using this info at the next pit stop.

What is more irritating than most of those issues though is wheel 'squeak'. You can only hear it at low speed but definitely something that drives you nuts. I mentioned it at the first service but it still remains although it would appear that the dealer did attempt a cure as for the following 2 weeks I had little puddles of oil. front and rear, on the offending side. The oil has now gone but the squeak remains
