I'm looking to get an V8 Vantage and have seen this company advertising at big discounts to new car prices (£10k off the convertible and £12.5k off the coupe).

Has anyone bought a new car from them, or know anyone who has?
It sounds too good to be true, so probably is.

I just took delivery of a new T180 RAV4 via 'Drive the deal' and managed to save over £3k but running the Vantage through the 'Quote Me Now' button only had a saving of £176 which is a bit less than what you've been quoted

Can't comment further as I don't have any experience of 'CAI'. Import/left hand drive perhaps?

I have got a quote from them, and it seams all good, I am awaiting to hear from a UK dealer if they can get anywhere near as good a deal, I asked for a coupe and its estimated delivery November, is on par with the UK, I have no reason to disbelieve them and they have seemed very professional.

If you are happy with a new, but non spec. changeable car a number of dealers have actual '07 spec. cars in stock that they're keen to shift and you'll get a discount too.

I'm considering them too. You cannot ignore the headline savings, well I can't, as it's my money paying for the car.

I was actually going to wait for a while (next year) until I get one because I am a little concerned about reliability (I have a Porsche now and it has never had any problems) and depreciation (so I was thinking of getting a 2006 car in 2008). However, seeing this Ad made me think about getting a new one because, at 10k off, its a good deal.

I talked to this company yesterday and they basically set up a deal between the buyer and Aston Martin Switzerland. So the car is built in the UK, tranported to Switzerland, then transported back to the UK !

Switzerland! Haha, might have known it would be something like that.
I rather like the idea of driving back from Switzerland, the car would
be reasonably run-in. I've already imported two cars and collected them
from Holland so a run through Europe would be rather nice. My one concern
would be that I would definitely get a RHD drive car, it'd be a tad silly
to end up with a left-hooker. "Sorry Sir" wouldn't do it.
Edit to answer cytfx. I'm thinking that November is fairly realistic for
a coupe, I doubt you can get delivery much earlier.

I have since been to the Swiss website and the prices are shown in this PDF: www.astonmartin.ch/pdf/preisliste_v8vantage.pdf

£67k for the coupe and £74k for the roadster!
You can also (via the car configurator) specify it in RHD.
I may now look into what is involved in importing a car into the UK from Swtzerland myself. With a roadster for £74k, instead of £91k from the UK, a bit of hassle may be well rewarded.

you have to remember that the swiss price includes 7.6% tax, I think you can remove this also but have to add on 17.5% vat when you bring it into this country.

from an actual import point of view you can get a pack from the DVLA site (free of charge) detailing what you need to do to import a car. There was a very good article on rennteam website about a chap that imported a porsche from germany and saved a bit, it detailed exactly what he had to do.

Do cars not also attract duty on top when coming from outside the EU?

From memory it is 10% car duty then 17.5% on everything, that's options and freight costs as well. I remember sitting at Dover for hours waiting for my turn for processing and was quite surprised when it turned out we were waiting for the drug dog! Had to do an SVA too but can't see that to be as much of a problem but the car might likely come with a speedo dominated by Km's instead of Miles. When I've time I'll try and work out the cost.
Group buy anyone?

In which case for a no options car, it's the same price as here give or take a couple of hundred quid.

With all the hassle in getting it, and potential hassle later having not developed a patter with a local friendly dealer, hardly seems worth it...

IIRC if the car has been registered in another country for 6 months it's VAT + Tax free when bringing it to Blighty.

So paying the 7.5% TVA in Switzerland and avoiding 17.5% VAT + 10% importy duty, is a good thing (tm)

Which is fine on slowly depreciating cars.

FYI - I have since been in touch (by email) with a guy fom AM Switzerland, who told me the price is £60k (tax free) from them, plus VAT (no duty) when its imported into the UK. That makes £70.5k for a new AMV8 (with no extras) if you 'do it yourself) or £71.75k if 'Car Advisers' do it for you. That implies 'Car Advisers' are making £1250 for organising the whole thing, which seems reasonable.
I dont know about you guys, but I'm not so rich that I dont care about depreciation or saving money. This is part of the email from AM Switzerland. "The answer to your question is yes, we are able to supply cars in UK specification. The car does however physically need to come to Switzerland and then can be transported or driven back to the UK. We have done this a few times in the past so are used to all the paperwork that needs to be carried out and we can prepare this for you. We generally register the car on Swiss tax free plates which enables you to drive the car in the UK until you get your British registration sorted. The start price for the Vantage Coupe with manual transmission is CHF. 146'200.00. These prices are tax free. In order to specify the car, (colours & options) we are able to organise a tour at the Aston Martin factory in Gaydon. A few of our customers have done this procedure themselves and all has run smoothly."

This is very interesting. But don't non UK dealer bought models go for less. Also if other people have done this in the past then some of these will theoretically be on the ph classified section and at the pricing that these are at they will have lost no money on them in the time that they have had them ... not bad or may be these are over priced.

I would have thought that non uk-spec (rather than non uk dealer) are the cars that may go for less. I mean, these cars are built in the UK, for the UK - its just they got delivered via Switzerland! In any event, if I decide to buy a new one, rather than used, this is definitely what I will be doing. As I said before, what puts me off a new one is the eye watering depreciation. If I won the lottery however, I'd have 2 new cars (the coupe and convertible).

Which dealer in Switzerland did you contact, the only item that I have as a problem is the finance as I would have to pay for the car in whole, then get a english finance company to give me the money, this is possible but may be a headache. going to see how they compare with finance to a uk dealer.

The guys name is Jonathan Hartop, email j.hartop@garage-keller.ch, or use the 'Contact Us' button at the AM Switzerland website. FYI he also invited me to drive the Roadster they expect to have in 2 weeks time, but I said the one I'm going to drive in the UK is much closer!
