Is anyone else surprised by the high factory tyre pressures on this car (35 psi front and rear)? For a light car this is higher than most.

Is this because it comes with the slippery and fun economy tyres from the factory? Maybe this tyre has naturally quite flexible side walls, so a high pressure is recommended to stiffen it up?

If you are running a sporting tyre do you think a lower pressure would be wise to consider? I believe I'm right in saying a sporting tyre will usually have a stiffer sidewall. So a lower pressure seems allowable unless I'm missing something.

Probably MPG based

Compared to my MX5 yes they do but lots of other cars run mid 30's.

Tyres are narrow so at optimum tyre shape the contact patches are smaller. Needs higher pressure or else tyre will flex too much trying to make contact patches large enough to carry the weight of the car. Wider tyres could run at lower pressure but will change the character of the car. (Frankly I'd prefer the extra grip, those Toyobaru tyres seems crazy)

I've played around with pressures a fair bit on my 86, and found 32 to be best for me in terms of ride and feel, however I have 18's fitted rather than the standard 17's.

I usually run 36 hot on track, which is about 28 cold. So low 30s for road use sounds about right.

Sidewall flex is awful on the standard tyres.

I still run 36 for daily use, but like others, don't run the stty standard wheels or tyres.
