According to Autoexpress the improved 2018 Sti won't have the rear spoiler as standard but it will be an option, in Japan at least.

I really hope that's the case in the UK, the main thing that puts me off is that huge spoiler. I had an RB320 back in the day and loved it but I would prefer something a tad more discreet now. New brakes and better handling on the new one too.

With the march of hybrids and ev powertrains this must be the last hurrah for this car in this form. I've heard 2018 will see the last Forester XT too. Different times are coming which may or may not be as much fun. I think I may indulge in the last of the line while it lasts.

You are correct. I own a 2014 2.5i Legacy and I believe that my next car will be a Hybrid. In fact I think Subaru are lagging behind a little bit in this regard or maybe they have a deal done with Toyota to fit a Toyota hybrid drivetrain in future models.

I think Toyota already own around 16% of Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru's parent) so it would make sense if they use Toyota's well-proven hybrid system. That should give them a big advantage over trying to develop something themselves. I just hope they still produce something performance orientated. I currently drive a Forester XT and I'd miss the acceleration when overtaking. I'm hoping the 2018 Forester has EyeSight, if so I'll buy one. I did look at an Outback but the Forester suits me more.

I for one will miss the intake and exhaust noise of the many of the various cars i have owned. To me that's half the pleasure of owning and driving something special. I challenge anyone to beat the sound of a decat TVR Griffith at 6000 rpm in 3rd gear. Electric/hybrid is not going to create that experience !

I like the wing. Its silly and too big but that is part of the fun, isnt it?

Well, yes but I've been there and done that with an RB320. I fancy something more discreet now. Having it as an option would be great.

How do you feel about the wing now? Or did you manage to get it removed?

I've grown to love it again! Silver suits it. I'd possibly have thought about it on a 'normal' 2017 but I'll keep the FE stock.
