What is your guys favourites of the jap turbo engines? Ignore the cars they come in but the engine.

Include any others I have missed but these were the first to come to mind as the engines of the 90s jap cars which I loved growing up.

I've owned 4g63, EJ20 and currently own an RB26. Spent a lot of time driving with a 2J.

Noise and performance = RB26 everytime. 2J is probably a 'better' engine as you can throw more power reliably from the standard engine.

I own a RB25DET and it's a lovely IL6 which starts off smooth and quiet before ending with a lovely snarl (in stock spec with a stock exhaust), and I adore the 4A-GE just for the way it sounds, though for me it has to be the 1JZ with it's the huge tunability and mostly stock internals that gets my respect all while being one of the most reliable engines out there which says proper engineering. The cars it is renowned for also complete it, some of the best JDM metal in my eyes smile

Gratuitous shot of my RB the day I collected it smile

My Classic Lancer Turbo has the early version of the 4G63, even in 1981 they can be tuned to push out decent power. not much in the way of low down torque though.
Current Impreza has the EJ20 in it. Again, it sounds lovely and is very robust (touch wood).

Hard to choose. For everyday driving it has to be the EJ20, but for nostalgia purposes on my part, the 4g.

Great fan of S13 200SX and S15 Silvia, but my vote still go to RB26 and 13b

Forgot about the 13b completely. Probably because I’m too terrified to own one!

Had to be the RB, particularly the rb20 for its sound, had an R32 gts4 with one in, currently playing with an rb25, it's not far off and a bit quicker to boot.
