probably up towards 30k then, i'm not that up on prices but sufficed to say it's an asset that will probably keep climbing.
It's always the same. Sold my V for £15k and bought a blob STi new, then that got stolen.

When I changed the AYC, I stripped down the old unit, fantastic bit of kit. Three concentric driveshafts on one side !

Flip side was that the Impreza insurance payed for a 3.2 carrera which has tripled in value since 2007.

In one way, you could say, ouch.

In another, what a set of cars to have experienced.

Out of that lot, which would you like back ?

For me it would probably be the E30.

I've bought the Evo 400 and convinced myself that it's an investment as the previous and only owner really loved the car, only ever used 99 octane, changed the oil every 2,000 miles and serviced it before the recommended miles had happened. I've driven it 300 miles so far and i have to say the lag is pretty awful compared to say an A45 AMG or RS3, cars people own at work. But i'm finding a love for it as a rebel, a hooligan which refuses to behave and as for lag, it basically says ''ave it''! I'm keeping it stock even though i was told you can modify these for more power AND less lag, quite how i don't yet know. Standard hopefully will mean better retained value. Here's to a fun summer but in so many ways a BMW M2 is just so much better if i'm honest. I drove my dad's yesterday and it's a great car.
Good choice, the 400 is the most desirable after the 6 TME and the prices on those have rocketed, the 400 will follow suit. As for more power less lag, the std 400 turbo is very outdated and too big for the power, with a simple remap you'll get 500+bhp on that. But you could also change the turbo for something a little more special and modern, engine is capable of well over 600bhp

I'm pretty sure they never did an Evo 14. They should though.

The E30 was mentioned. I have to say i drove one recently in fabulous condition and other than rarity what the heck do people see in them? Am i alone on being totally underwhelmed by a car with pretty much the same performance as a Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0? They look like a kit car built by someone who liked his ale rather too much and the engine was a huge disappointment. It just felt so slow and even the sports exhaust did little to make me think i was in an ''M car''. To pay a fortune for one seems crazy other than a pure investment.

I bought my E30 (Hartge tuned) based on photos and an engineers report.

Flew down to London and picked the car up.

Drove her from back from London to East Lancashire the same day and all I need to say is that I never drove the car again.

She was MINT but I stuck her in our showroom (I used to own a tuning garage) as a static display and sold her on a few months later.

Late 80's reviews mask the fact that "most" older classics are actually not very nice to drive and are VERY slow (my current E46 M3 manual is an exception as the chassis is very enjoyable).

It is called progress!

My friend and I both love our Evos, theyre absolutely perfect for twisty country roads! It isnt a main car for me so I dont mind the fuel issue and while the major service items like timing belt etc are done at Ralliart (they still exist in NZ) the rest of the easy stuff like fluid changes are done and logged by me.

I wanted one for years and honestly can say its everything I hoped it would be!

Complete paint correction process, full body glass coating, wheel refurb (not really needed but want her absolutely pristine) and even having brake callipers re-painted as they have faded with age!

Did I mention that I have OCD when it comes to cars?

Probably around £1,700 all in but the results will speak for themselves!

I once saw an Evo navigate a r/bout at at least 70mph (straight across it) and it left me sat there gobsmacked. Quite incredible the way it just jinked left and right with no braking.

TX.

Edit - if you're suffering from "lag" then you're just in the wrong gear wink

When I lived in Southampton, and was located in Hamble, Junction 8 roundabout was my exit point from the M27. I used to come in quite late when it was quiet and have a dozen or so laps in the middle of the night, until I got dizzy!

I did this for years, always on my own, and the car would just sit balanced on slight opposite lock, at a speed that felt high enough for me not to want to take my eyes off the road to look at the speedo.

Eventually, I ended up doing this with a passenger, who leant across and stunned me with the information that it was indicating 85 mph under the bridges on the " straight " parts of the oval that formed the roundabout.

I doubt I'll ever own or drive a more capable or engaging car than my Evo, and for that reason I doubt I'll ever sell it.
