I just picked up a 2012 SSS at the weekend, 78k miles 1 owner from new (bar main dealer for first 6 months). Was a bit grubby with the odd scratch which let it down a bit, but nothing a good clean and bit of elbow grease wouldn't sort, I think fundamentally it's a decent car underneath.
Ideally I was after a newer 5 door and less miles but this one came up 3 miles from home, and has been locally owned so I jumped at it. Prices have gone a bit mental with these of late, some late models with low mileage up for £11.5k, that's what the previous owner paid for this at 6 months old in 2013! That was another reason to go for an older/higher mileage, less of a gamble if prices suddenly drop or I decide it's not for me after all (doubt that!).
Plans are to tidy it up a bit, and get on top of the service items that tend to be ignored. It has FSH so oil and filters will have been changed but beyond that I can't see any evidence of valve clearance checks etc. What are the other more long term service items that might need attention?
Also I have a spare key fob, brand new condition but the battery in it was dead, I've put a new battery in it and it doesn't open the car. Will it have lost its memory of the code if its had no power? Is it dealer only to recode?
Cheers!

I'd be interested in what you find when you check them. I haven't heard anyone finding them out of spec and I suspect most never check them and I haven't heard of any issues caused by them being out of spec.Servicing wise there isn't much else. The factory coolant is 8 years so worth checking as it may have been skipped. I recently changed mine for Prestone.
The only other thing worth a look is the caliper slider pins, especially at the back. Make sure they are in good condition and re-grease with silicone grease.
The service interval for the plugs is 36k but they are Iridium and will do much more.
So simple to work on which is one of the reasons we have two in the family.

I think Redline MTL is the SSS fanboi favourite.
Probably worth checking the handbrake adjustment. That doesn't take long. The gear linkages might also benefit from a clean and lube, but that's a bit more involved.
Thanks for the pointers, I'll look into the gear oil, sounds like a worthy bit of preventative maintenance, can't go wrong with Redline have used it in my previous MX5 box and diff. Have seen the bush kits too, if that chap on here that 3D printed a load reads this I wouldn't mind a pair of them too.
Got 4 new tyres and a wheel refurb to sort too, they all seem to suffer from corroded alloys, thin paint too, all the cars I looked at had stone chipped bonnets, perhaps not the most robust of cars body wise.

Corroded alloys and wheel bolts…the guys that did the wheels on my wife’s car blasted and treated the bolts too. Made a big difference.Got 4 new tyres and a wheel refurb to sort too, they all seem to suffer from corroded alloys, thin paint too, all the cars I looked at had stone chipped bonnets, perhaps not the most robust of cars body wise.

Thanks for that Does anyone know of any car motor factors that can supply discs that are actually 5 stud?
All the usual suspects claim to stock discs but they often show in the description as 4 stud and the one time i ordered ones that said 5 stud, they came as 4 stud (correct part number according to them.).
I know they are rarer than many hot hatch models but you'd think most motor factors would get the basics like that right when they research new part lines.

CTC are good. The Rotinger discs are good quality and a pretty decent price https://www.ctc-performance.co.uk/store/rotinger-f...I've had them on mine for over two years and they seem to corrode less than Suzuki supplied ones.
