It has already been confirmed by both makes that a successor will come for the Toyota GT86 and the Subaru BRZ.
Latest rumors include an evolution of the current platform and having a 2.4L NA engine which replaces the FA20 NA.
Power would increase to 217bhp/240Nm. Interior would get an upgrade on what it is now.
Pictures below are quite accurate.

20% increase in displacement for only a 10% increase in power? Even with a particulate filter or what have you, that doesn't seem very efficient?

was hoping it may have got a downsize in capacity and just rev higher. this thing would be good with a honda s2000 type engine in it (the 2.0 version).

I’m seeing more recent reports it is a 2.4 turbo engine. Very promising but still only talking about 252bhp range. You would have thought over 3-400bhp considering an A45 with 2.0 is north of 400 and even the 1.6 Yaris GR is putting out 257bhp.

250 does seem low, but i'd be wary of anything near 400. for an 86 i want throttle feel, progression and predictable delivery to exploit the delicate chassis. the A45 will cover the ground quickly, but in a different and aloof manner. this will hopefully be a v.light turbo install

It's already clear for some months a 2.4L normally aspirated engine will be used. Don't know why some people still point to turbo engines.

Still nothing official from Toyota/Subaru UK.

I've requested they keep me up to date and add me to any prospective lists.

Very keen to see these - I'm probably more interested in this than the original GT86. I couldn't hand over my money fast enough last time. boxedin

If it's a 2.4 with 230nm of torque it's not turbo charged , My swift sport has more torque than that from a 1.4 with a small turbo.

It's a 2.4 NA with a 7000 or so rev limit , that's what it's going to be.

All the people thinking it should have 300-400 hp should go buy a Supra , Toyota are not gonna release 2 RWD coupes with around the same HP.

Looks decent to me

Savagegeese review was quite good, there seems to be a noticeable improvement with the 2.4
