what are the downfalls of buying a 3000gto ,turbo and non turbo,about 91/93 ....

Electronics - the cars full of them and they cost a lot to fix. Availibility can be a problem if its an import. 300ZX would be a better bet as long as the big 60000 mile service has been done (cam belts).

A bit costly - need frequent servicing (4,500 miles I think) and if you're over about 6'2" your head maybe jammed into the roof. Otherwise lovely cars (I'd forget the non-turbos though).

perhaps i should have said what are the running costs like compaired to a TVR chimaera which i still have till the weekend. the 3000 gt does look good though..

Phew - I'd stick with the Chimaera every day - the 3000 is a rice burner. Hey it's got no soul!!!

The 300ZX certainly doesn't lack soul and I can honestly say it's been one of the most exciting cars I've ever driven - especially in the ice and snow recently

Running costs (for me) have been amazingly low, other than fuel, although that probably isn't much worse than a Chimp at 19-23mpg. Servicing isn't a problem, I use a local specialist who only charges £35/hour. Parts are more readily available than the rumours you hear. As long as the belts are changed at 60k (mine have been done) the cars are very reliable. In two years the only non-service item to fail was the water-pump.

Based on a test drive or two, the 300zx is much more involving than a 3000gt. Neither are as involving as a tvr by any stretch of the imagination but then that level of involvement may not be your bag. Have you considered an rx7? I haven't driven one but they are supposed to be much more of a drivers car and they look fantastic.
