www.sxoc.co.uk should be able to point you in the right direction

This might be a bit more use... www.300zx.co.uk/

Looks for blue smoke indicating turbo seals are going. The turbos are 500 each and you need to pull the engine to change them. Judging by my mate's car it's such a complex car I think I'd be tempted to get one inspected before buying.

Not that I'm biased or anything, but they are superb cars

Well, they are if you get a well maintained one. I saw plenty of ropey ones before settling on my baby.

Don't be put off by imports (mine is), although there are pros and cons:

Pros = Normally lower mileage/better spec
Cons = No history/add 40% to your insurance

If the car's done 60K miles, it's due a big service (cambelts/diff oil etc etc). Make sure this has been done. Turbos do fail and are expensive to replace, although abuse/poor maintenance will be the more likely cause of failure. Water pumps are also known to fail around the 60k mark (best to get it replaced when the cambelt's done).

Best advice would be to always go with condition as opposed to age. Get it checked. RAC/AA at a minimum, but you'd be better off getting it done by an specialist (and I don't mean Nissan!)

I note you're from Hampshire - me too. Where abouts? Mine's looked after by a local chap (specialises in Jap cars). I'm sure I could put you in contact if you want.

Buy a good'un and you won't regret it. Good luck

Thanks for all the help.

The one I was going to see was for sale from a trader from home. Turned out it was a UK car with full service history but all of the history and service book had been "lost".
My search for another one continues.

When I find one and get nearer the buying stage I would be interested in that specialist in Hampshire. I live near Portsmouth (nearest place for Le Mans!). Feel free to email my profile with the details of the specialist if you dont want to post them here.

Thanks again for the help. One other thing to any other future buyers. Apparently they have 2 oil filters. Make sure that both have been changed when was serviced. Un-experienced 300ZX mechanics may not know of both filters.

Twin Turbo - you going to Le Mans? Anyone else taking a 300ZX to Le Mans? I am part of a 20 car convoy(/race!) going down there. If anyone is taking a 300zx let me know so I can come and have a look.

Adamdsc - sorry, not going to Le Mans

Will be at the Goodwood Festival of Speed though

I'll dig out the details of the chap who looks after mine and e-mail them to you. He's based near Farnborough - not exactly on your doorstep, but he knows his stuff (and yes, he did change BOTH filters at my last service!)

BTW the import company I bought mine from currently have a '96 model for sale (green/manual box/60k) but they want £13K for it.....YIKES! Then again, their website also shows they've got a few 350Zeds too (one day!)

Good luck with your search
