The Greddy kit is available for $1100 USD but it's 1.6 only. The car is question is a 1.8 - to get decent power out of this you're going to be looking at between £1300 for a used JR supercharger up to £4k plus for the big daddy FM kit.

Trooper..

did you go from the MX5 to the tubby-Turbo ??

I'd like your opinions of the relative pros/cons of each.. the tubbies always draw my attention.. as they're cheap, damn fast, look good.. only concerned about the handling after having an MX5 for 2 years...

...queueing up for a ride in BenjC's FMII monster at reading...

Handlings fine. I had one scare me, but it was badly lowered and I'm not much of a driver.....

It does exactly what a Mid-Rear sports car should do. If it wasn't a bit twitchy I'd want my money back.

not so much the "twitchy" that worries me.. I know a properly set-up/tyred once is fine in this respect (although it demands it too)...

more what's turn-in like?
throttle-adjustability?
sure-footed/confidence-inspiring?
progressive limits? (relative for a mid-engine)
ride/body control?

and I mean as standard.. as there's obviously a shed-load of upgrades available..

Turn in is excellent.
Balancing it on the throttle can be tricky as it's a turbo engine.

I had one sideways because I'd applied some throttle on a wet roundabout and wasn't used to a turbo lump. So when another 75bhp turned up a second later I wasn't ready for it.

If you have a moderate amount of ability you'll be fine.

Mine's still faster in the wet though....

Don't prevoke it, it isn't sure footed.

Hmm.. that's a bit disappointing.. especially from the arch-bishop of tubby-worship

provoking it's the fun bit!!
why not sure-footed? does it skit around due to overly harsh suspension (heard the turbo's are lower/harder set-up?).. or what??

'tis frustrating.. as I LOVE the chuckability ofthe 5.. best car in that respect that I've driven after a proper old Mini... but 250bhp is just awfully tempting at that price-point..

Wife's MX-5 (I'm not putting claim to it being mine - too woofterish) It's huge fun in the wet, its a 1.6 all standard. These are brill for tale wagging antics, wet roundabouts are marvelous.

So much so I'm taking it drifting proper tomorrow....

Has nobody considered spkiy cams? Or is there something about mazda that makes them poo?

I'd say a skimmed flywheel, induction and cams; but that's more from my mates' experience with his Nova than any true mazda knowledge...

What about nitros. You might be able to get a system for 300 quid.

As much power as you like, the only downside being you must be confident in the setup or its bye bye engine....

Avo and Flyin' Miata both do similar kits with better hp and ft/lb results.
