The Subaru feels very quick up to 100mph due to silly boost engine, short gears and relentless grip. 100mph+ and its big spoiler, brick like front end & 4wd slow it down.

M5 is too much for the ppp almost everywhere, I'd still prefer the ppp non the less.

Are we not comparing these two?

In which case it all seems very even, though the impreza would definitely get off the line better.

Ppp could use first gear more effectively for sure.

Made me hehe too. I'd bet good money he's never been in an M5 and the Scooby is the fastest car he's been in. 220ish bhp/tonne is not savage.

I had e60 m5 and now run sti hawkeye, remapped and I know the OP was about the e39 m5. However the e60 leaves the sti for dead at any speed.

It is one of the quickest cars I've been in good guess!!

And it was SAVAGE. Like been slammed up the arse by a big effing train from behind, you lot are probably used to slammings from behind mind.

Also telling porkies on the Internet about going for a ride in an m5!!! Pmsl

- The STI can bog down easy if you get it wrong'
With a good boot of gas and dropping the clutch right its 4 wheels spining and a blur to 60!
I Havnt driven the e39 M5 yet but remember how good the 325 sport was' very good cars. Infact I still think the E39 was the best BMW They have built.

Currently drive an E39 M5 and briefly considered one of these before I bought the M. Now I was talking to a friend in the pub who has driven my car and he mentioned he'd been out in one of these that day. When I asked him how it compared to mine (in straight line speed obviously) he said he didn't want to offend me but the sti would walk the M5 up to 140 mph.. now I know these cars are quick but I wouldn't have thought that once moving that it would embarrass an M5? Anyone had both cars for an opinion?
Turbo cars can give a bigger impression of acceleration because of the power delivery. But that doesn't always mean it is accelerating faster.

M5 certainly has the advantage when rolling even when the STI is modified...

I own a 2004 impreza wrx sti ppp at the time in standard form... a chap from my street also happens to own a e39 m5 in a very nice dark metallic blue with a profirmance exhaust system & panel filter. We came across one another on the way home from leeds one evening quite late on & decided to see who had the edge from a rolling start at 40mph, the subaru pulled on the m5 up to 120mph just over a car length, round the roundabouts totally gone. After 120mph the m5 was reeling my subaru in like a train. So from my experience the subaru is considerably quicker through the gears up to 120mph & around the corners no comparison. But on a good run or motorway not a chance! My subaru at the time ran a 1/4 mile time of 12.7 @ 114mph so would certainly also be quicker in a 1/4 mile drag race. Hope my info helps some one 😂
