The N54 remains a flawed but deeply impressive engine.

My mum wont give me the money straight away and the seller has to transfer his private reg off the car and get a new V5.

What's flawed about it?

There are a few issues with some ancillaries but the engine is now widely accepted as the modern 2JZE, except better.

On a motorway cruise at 70mph, I get 43mpg out of my N53 E92 330i - which I was surprised about.

My usual cross country/ town commute gets about 33mpg - which is still pretty good.

My e91 335 manual regularly gets over 30 if I'm just cruising and keep it rolling. These things are surprisingly decent on fuel as long as long as you can avoid stop/start traffic.

On a decent run my E46 M3 used to get around 35mpg.

2003 Z4 3.0i used to get around the same.

Tremendous engines. M3 in particular
