By the time you're paying £100+ per month just to warranty an ageing car it's worth seeing if you're not better off buying a newer one. Either that or bank the money and take your chances.

My E65 was something daft like almost two grand a year to keep warrantied. I just found a former BMW master tech indie who has kept my car running for mondeo money.

Is that the Mondial warranty or is Nationwide the company?
They did say it is nationwide and with any BMW dealer. I didnt specifically ask about 'Mondial' though.
Will double check again.

If I had a BMW and was looking for a warranty I wouldn't consider anything other than the BMW Mondial - my experience on two cars bought from auction was superb in that when I had a problem it went into the BMW garage and they handled everything. I even had a clutch replaced at 80k which juddered although this was a known design issue. That said, BMW were a nightmare for trying to get additional work (Sir, do you you know your discs and pads are dangerous...bks).

The warranty expires on my '12 F13 640D at the end of the month (only had the car since last October) so deciding what my options are so that I've got an idea when I discuss it with the dealer. I'm thinking it'll be around the £600 mark, or at least hoping!
It's priced as per the F10 5 Series warranty which means for the zero excess package with assistance it's about a grand a year sadly.

I have to agree. Warrantywise are much cheaper and though the garage will handle the claim and bill with them directly, they insist on only paying the motofactors price for any parts that are available from third parties - guest what? 9 times out of ten the part doesn't fit properly. Lots of hassle mad

In terms of identifying things that (don't) need changing and are aren't cover by the warranty I.e. Service items. Either a) I'll change it when service indicator is at a -1000 or b) when I can hear it almost metal to metal. On the long service intervals, they often make the assumption if the brake need changing in the next 20k then they need changing NOW.

I have opted for the Mondial fully comp warranty for my 645ci for circa £800 per annum with a £100 xs. The car has less than 60k, so perhaps this influences the price, as is the fact the there is a surcharge for a 'lapsed' policy.

My choice would never have been anything other than Mondial though and I chose the breakdown cover also. I am planning a long European business jaunt and would simply like the peace of mind of having a BMW backup. Also, it is the first tip top car that I have owned and I would like to protect myself against the unknown, so it is an investment in maintaining the value, protecting my finances and enjoying a quality vehicle whilst under my ownership.

OT But makes my warranty sound cheap at £1k per year for my 911.

And if you are close to 60k miles do it monthly, as you don't suddenly double your premium when the warranty expires and you have done 61k miles.

I think you'll find the Ts&Cs have now changed

I thought I'd resurrect this thread to share the prices I've been quoted. I've currently got a 520d Luxury Auto which will be coming out of manufacturers warranty in 5 months, and I'd been toying with the idea of getting a 7-series about 3 years old. I rang BMW Warranty Insurance and the following were the quotes I got for their top level warranty cover annually (to continue from BMW warranty at 30k miles):

520d:
£0 excess - £707
£100 excess - £535
£250 excess - £454

730d:
£0 excess - £2,290 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Even the person I spoke to on the phone was shocked and couldn't explain the disparity. So to me, allowing for admin & some profit this says that on average BMW expect a 7-series to have approaching £2k worth of problems a year which is staggering. Even driveline only cover for the 7 was £1500.

An Audi A8L for top level (Audi) cover at 4-years old & 45k miles was only £770.

BMW, you just lost a customer.

I think it's more that they think folks who buy the more expensive motors will pay more.

Pah, for my 760, they want £383/month. Bargain... nuts

Almost 1 year in and I've spent £1400 on an amplifier, so 'up' so far, but if the internet didn't exist, things like the fix for the HPFP (of which the N73 engine has 2) would set you back around £2700 each from BMW, therefore a £4.5k warranty cost is a 'win', but with a bit of research, and DIY, can be done for around £80...

While a 7-series is a complex beast, once out of warranty, it really doesn't have to be main dealer for everything. (YMMV & all that).

Do they still offer the zero excess insured warranty? I didn't think they did...

Been quoted the following on a 130i. It's been under mondial warranty by the same owner since new (11 yrs!). It's on 52k miles and is an 06 plate. The call centre lady said that monthly the price will continue once it ticks over 60k miles, but annually it will rise on renewal once the mileage ticks over 60k. But paying monthly they reserve the right to raise the price at any time.

Comp: £510 with £100 excess (£49 monthly)
Named: £441 with £100 excess (£41 monthly)
Driveline: £359 with £100 excess (£35 monthly)

Comp: £388 with £250 excess (£37 monthly)
Named: £344 with £250 excess (£35 monthly)
Driveline: £292 with £250 excess (£30 monthly)

I'm quite tempted to keep this going. One thing that worries me is that if the previous owner has kept it for 11 yrs, did they get good value out of it? Personally after about 7 or 8 years i'd be considering whether it's worth it! So maybe it's had some big bills!?!??

Named and driveline don't seem worth it. My main concerns are electrics, injectors, coils, etc. The N52 engines are pretty reliable, it's the stuff bolted to them that goes wrong! Manual gearbox too, plus no turbos.

It's £100 to have a fault diagnosed with BMW isn't it? So do you have to pay that AND the excess when you claim? How does that work? So if a £250 excess, plus the diagnosis charge means £350 to fix anything then maybe sticking the money aside is the way to go as a bork fund.

Thoughts/opinions welcome!

I have Driveline on my '06 N52 330i. First year paid for itself as I had both rear wheel bearings replaced under it, ad that's taking into account the £100 excess. Driveline covers most things tbh, including any electrics relating to the engine, unless you've got a turbo - in that case I think you need named component but I may be wrong. Think I pay c£45/mo

I can't remember what our F20 125i has (Named or Driveline) but that's paid for itself for many years after having new a/c compressor, new cylinder head and new turbo laugh Think this one's about £35-40/mo.
