I finally decided the 550i needed a drive. Battery was completely flat. Also the rear suspension was completely down. I'm thinking it's been 3 months since I've driven it. After about 10 minutes on the jumper cables I had enough juice to fire it up. Took it for a 10 minute drive on the motorway to get some charge into it. Fingers crossed now it starts in the morning or I'm stranded.

I didn't realise that they did these with the SMG.
This was sold but still on AT , anyone know about it as it's 9 miles from me.

The seller appeared on here to promote it.

Grabbing brakes - almost sorted...
After consulting various experts I think I've finally tracked down the reason - someone has used aluminiumised grease when re-assembling after a pad change.
Over time that's hardened meaning the sliders are coated with baked-on grease slowing their action.
It takes scraping rather than wire brushing to remove it.
One new front and one new rear caliper later and I've reached that conclusion.
All I need do now is clean up the sliders on FR and LR and it should restore things to normal!
I'm using ceramic grease as that seems the best option.
Watch this space...
Cheers, Pewe

Check out this ultra rare touring

https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2005-bmw-alpin...

Wouldn't have thought a 2005 one of these with 91000 miles would have required such extensive work, but looks really nice.

Looking at the listing, the suggest the wrong oil filter has been used.

The H1 is usually very stout, and plenty of these have gone well past 200,000 miles with ease. This was a really magnificent ALPINA engine, and a B5 touring is super rare. Only 4 came to the UK.

Hi all.

Not sure if this is allowed, but I’ll be putting my 550i sport touring up for sale soon. 56 plate, blue, auto, just under 160k miles. Drives great, but doesn’t get used much. Spec below- it’s pretty decent. All works bar the AC- which did work until it was parked up for a couple of months, so possibly gas, possibly something else.

Drop me a message if you’re interested, I’m near Leamington Spa.

I bought this three weeks ago. It's an odd spec I must admit. It's an SE but with pretty much every option I can find except massaging seats for some reason. I've fixed the clogged sunroof drains and replaced the alternator. Now there is (touch wood) not a fault in sight. And I actually like the SMG. Happy days.

Happy to answer any questions. I enjoyed reading every one of the 109 thread pages!

Good question! 24 June 2011 apparently. I was asking the organiser of Caring With Cars about bringing the 1968 Cadillac Eldorado I had at the time. My 550i is not my first V8, and not the largest either. The Eldorado had a 7.7L lump.

After a year or two or lurking as a six cylinder E61 owner, I will pick up my 550i on Monday! I will get some pictures up in due course but it's a 2009 LCI car, carbon black with champagne leather. Good spec including the CIC iDrive. I am looking forward to joining the club

Pop your chassis no into real oem, get the part no. Put part no into eBay. Choose your pads.

Well that didn't work. RealOEM says I need the front ones, my car says I need the big boys at the back. Part number is 34116774254, no results on fleaBay or Google, guess its a BMW dealer part only. 😕

I bought ebc yellow pads and they fit first time no messing. They do some more standard type pads. Could be worth a try.
