The values are not strong. I think they're still dropping. But what can you replace with? Even BMW don't make any NA v8 cars after this. So this is their last NA v8 other than the e90 m3. And obviously no Touring. The only option is the x5 from 2006 or 2007.

Will these find some value in a few years - who knows.
I paid £6k for mine 3 years ago on 86k. Its now on 94k and I see badly specced SE's going for that on higher mileage.

If I paid 6k for a run of the mill car I'd expect to lose 1k a year in deprecation let alone running costs. Hence why spending 1k on it seems ok as apart from the brake lines and 2 coil packs it's been fine since purchase. But I don't use it for work, just

Family and friends can't understand how I can afford to run a V8. They only see mpg and maintenance. I ask how they can afford to run a newish car that loses a fortune in deprecation every year?

If you're looking at that SE for sale I posted it sold for much much less a few months ago.

My car has been fairly solid too - touch wood. I bought it wanting a big v8 to haul the thing around quick enough to excite and that it does easily. I also thought a simple petrol engine would be a better bet than the complicated diesel alternatives and that has appeared to work out well - so far.

Saying all that mine is still sat in pieces going nowhere and looking sad. I really need to decide what I'm doing with it and get on. But in this day and age I don't really drive much so the big v8 gets left behind and the other cars pick up the slack.

I took apart a few bits and have not put it back together. The original idea was to put in new coolant. But then I snapped off the drain from the bottom of the rad. To try and empty the coolant I removed the elbow where the stat goes. Then trying to reassemble i felt a bolt misthread. So then I lost motivation and haven't touched it since. Battery flat now and rear suspension sagged.

Rear wiper parking update.
The usual quick remedies all failed (salmon relay in the spare wheel well, cleaning the mechanicals etc. etc.) so I bit the bullet and took the right side hinge wiring apart.
TBH its easier than I anticipated but showed what a p*ss poor piece of engineering that system is.
Goodness knows why BMW couldn't have followed the flex tubing solution most other manufacturers use for tailgates.
Anywho having exposed the wiring the Purple and Red parking wire pulled straight out to the rear.
I used a bit of weld wire with a loop on one end to act as a tail to push through into the interior before pulling a suitable, longer length piece of wire back through.
I soldered both ends, insulating with heat shrink before re-wrapping the loom and reassembling - job done.
I now have the satisfaction of watching the rear wiper park as it's meant to but part of me still anticipates it may not!!

Do you live in south Cheshire/Shropshire or north Staffordshire?

If so I’ll come over and give you a hand with it.

Very generous offer thanks. I'll get it done myself at some point. I might even have a tinker with it later.

I've decided to tackle one job at a time. Hopefully this can spur me into some progress. This is the current list unordered -

Battery flat as fook
Leak into battery area of boot
Bolt and bolt hole cross threaded where bottom hose elbow meets water pump
Cooling system contains a bit of tap water only
Air box and pipe to throttle body removed
rocker cover vanity covers removed
Breather hose from front of engine fell into pieces - still have remains to fashion cheapo replacement using simple tubing and the [hopefully] usable ends

So I attached another battery with jumper cables yesterday and got the suspension back up. All systems seem to be working although I did not attempt to start it obviously.

^^Very nice. cool

I'm hoping the N62TU isn't as crap as all the US YouTube folk make out as I've just bought an E70 X5 4.8 for the wife. *fingers crossed*

Thanks, and no it's not. I know 'Hoovie' bought a shed of a car and then was surprised it was knackered.... they just need to be looked after and one of the biggest problems with B5's and B7's is the wrong oil filter being fitted (even BMW dealers get it wrong and fit the 'base' car part from reading the OBD old BMW VIN number) rather than the finer one the supercharged engine needs based on the Alpina VIN. This results in the charger getting taken out over time which may also take out the cooler or other bits depending on how quickly it is stopped when it lets go. Most owners I know of either use a specialist for servicing or even supply the parts to their local garage to fit.

Those V8 X5's sound like thunder, I've got a mate with a 4.6 previous gen' one. I had a normal E70 X5 40d as my daily before my current 640d and they are a nice place to be so only enhanced by the noise yours makes. Enjoy

BOOM

In rolls another B5

I am impressed

When my car grows up it wants to be a B5

Our last B5 here which has now gone was LHD

I still fancy an X5 4.8is but I am a bit anti SUV although the original X5 is more E39/E38 if you ask me and they were really well screwed together cars. And yeah they sound absolutely awesome.

This is my mate Mick's 4.6. One of the best sounding cars in my car club (Four Marks Performance Car Club) despite being possibly the oldest

Was the LHD a Touring? There are 3 RHD Tourings and 1 LHD Touring in the UK, i've met up with one of the RHD's and know someone who knows the owner of the other one which is up in Edinburgh so a bit far (I'm near Reading). No idea the location of the LHD. Quite a few saloons around in comparison and I've spoke with the guy who has the twin of mine (same paint etc) who is down near Bristol but of course this year not been able to meet up with events cancelled etc.

The charger kicks in at 2.5k revs but under that you just get the lovely V8 burble.

Childish I know but an extra I love about mine is that she is chassis number 007 smile

Edit - found a couple of pics, mine with the other one in the south and my chassis plate
