If I was a betting man I'd say that could be a nightmare for the new owner - doesn't exactly seem cared for by this owner.....
In tidy working condition its maybe a 5 grand car. Not sure because of the 189000 miles. I've read his comments before about pulling big loads with this so read into that what you will. High mileage cruising up and down the motorway is very different to high mileage dragging 3 tonnes around.

Mondeo Man the owner does frequent these forums so I'm not sure if he will chip in. Some people like buying fixer uppers and by definition these are always a bit tatty because owners have given up on them. Finding pristine 2nd hand cars is difficult enough but finding pristine fixer uppers is basically impossible.
£3300 already...
Finished on £4500
Mondeo man's car sold for 4500 needing new alternator gasket. Well that's what description said.

No worries, it’s the one bit I was dreading but having done it now it’s really simple. There wasn’t a single but that was a real struggle or exceptionally difficult, it just took time .

Don’t let a leaking alt gasket put you off an N62, it’s under £20 and a few hours of your time. If anything it’s a great bargaining tool when looking at one.

cool
Yup; knowing that now would make me think about looking over a 550i touring if ones around if/when I come to sell my E39 wink

I'd love a 650i; but the 2 doors and small boot wouldn't serve me well unfortunately

So I broke the drain off the old one. This new one doesn't even have a drain. Is that because its not a genuine part?

Did you go off the numbers on RealOEM?

And IIRC auto and manual coolant rads are generally the same... Could be wrong though

When I was buying a rad for the E46 there were options for Manual or Auto.

It seemed that the Auto version had an adaptor at the bottom to allow it to fit manual cars but the manual rad wouldn't fit an auto.

Same part number, Nissens rad here

Diagrams don't show a drain either: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ENGINE-COOLING-RADIATOR...

Must just be that design

I just phoned BMW. The pucker rad is £300. I can also get the big hoses for £50 and £60. Then the water pump - which is giving me problems - is £200. That lot adds up to £600. Ouch.

This is the image BMW sent me.

My problems started when I tried to remove hose 2 from the thermostat housing which is part of the water pump. It is greyed out in the above pic.

The boot isn't small, unless in comparison to an estate touring, in which case, it is.

According to autodoc, the Nissens rad above (60763) is indeed the correct equivalent to the BMW Part number 17117519209 (from Real OEM)

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/nissens/1989247

(Apparently will fit BMW 550i YH55PZN)

RealOEM quotes a part number of 17117519210 for manual models, which is equivalent to the Nissens 60764

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/nissens/1989248

Which Nissens rad did you buy ATM?

Decided to return the manual rad. Then gonna try a simple retapping of threads before replacing the entire cooling system for no good reason.

Was it definitely the manual rad then? Frustrating. furious
