The natural habitat for the big 550i here...

This was my old 43 inch Samsung. Can stand up in the back easily. Will even fit through the boot opening stood upright but it's close in the top corners.

Stretford?
Stalker?
Another local checking in here, and one who needs to up his stalking game as i'd love to spot your cars out and about... Particularly this and the 996, i've thoroughly enjoyed both threads.

This chat should be consigned to the bin. What a load of rubbish.

Anyway, any links to the two threads? They've escaped my attn.

I think he mentioned my 996 only. I've got 3 other cars all Porsche. Links are here -

Excellent, thanks ATM. Do you keep an RR on the 550i, or just update on here?

Just on here. It doesn't get much love if I'm honest. Any little jobs are usually posted on here.

I refitted the large cover which goes from the front bumper to the central jacking point. This had been left off the car and the next cover it meets was flapping around. I wasn't sure how it meets the bumper so I just pushed it inside. I will have to investigate how it's meant to go together from the factory. There is a lip which screws onto the bottom edge of the bumper but I couldn't get the cover to meet up to that.

Also I have a rubber trim - don't think it's a seal - which goes along the top of the windscreen. This was loose and flapping around on the passenger side. After its wash I managed to push it back in firmly so I'm not sure if it will stay put or needs some attention.

MOT advisories will also need looking at.

Car will need some new brake pipes on the front and also I still have a set of Goodridge hoses somewhere which I never fitted.

I think its time for some new control arms and whatever else suspension wise at the front as the knock is still present.

The rear air suspension still operates fine otherwise I'd be tempted to switch to metal springs. I did the drop the rear air level a touch a few years ago but it would occasionally bottom and my back seat passengers reported some unpleasant bumping. My current wheel spacers are too aggressive so the rear tyres have some marks on where they are hitting the arch.

I had an error yesterday when I put the key in and the car refused to do anything. That needs monitoring for now. I'm hoping it's just a gremlin from not being used enough.

Finally the boot used to collect water. It looked empty when I changed the battery last week so I'll keep an eye on that too.

I've decided to disconnect my IBS. Which means just unplugging this blue plug here - top part of the pic. I'll see how the car behaves and report back.

Currently at a festival in Northamptonshire. Did try to upload a pic but signal patchy. Bit bored so thought I'd update this instead...

Lazy starter problem still persists but only happens occasionally. Which makes me think there is some form of gremlin rather than I need a new battery or alternator or starter etc. It even failed to start outside the fish and chip shop which was most annoying as my food was cooling. I connected up the spare battery and jump leads and it still didn't want to start but just managed it.

So I'm not sure now if I should seek professional advice. I'd prefer to figure it out myself because that's what men do right?

Since disconnecting the IBS I don't get the battery drain warnings but the car still forgets the time. Radio signal is also rubbish.

I did consider the air pump for the rear suspension may be running constantly when the car is on but I heard it come on and off yesterday when I arrived at the festival so its not that. Perhaps the petrol pump is just a bit noisy feeding the big 5 litre.

So I'm now beginning to suspect a poor earth somewhere or poor positive to the starter. Or something else is staying on and draining the battery.

By disconnecting the IBS I can see that the warnings would stop, but surely that’s just hiding the underlying issue?

I went through various attempts to fix a similar issue with one of my 545is, which turned out to be the alternator. I bet it’s that which needs replacing.

Does your stop/start button totally turn off after a while parked/locked up?

My E91 was draining because of a faulty comfort access module. Kept draining the battery and I'd need to use the car every couple of days or have it attached to a trickle charger. Only by chance I noticed one evening the light was still on after being parked up for an hour. Took the fuse out for the comfort access and it has been fine since.

Electrical faults are frustrating to diagnose because they are time consuming.

The IBS system itself can also be a cause of a battery drain.

Exactly so by unplugging it I have isolated it as a cause. But the lazy start still persists. So perhaps I could plug this back in. But I may as well leave it unplugged because until I find the root cause I dont want a dead battery. My 3 quid Lidl Battery Charger does have lights for charging so I will check this when the car is running.

Put the key in the ignition today and got nothing. Blipper unlocks and locks doors but that's it. Will have to jump it again and relocate nearer to the house to connect a charger.

Have you checked your tailgate wiring (again)? Had the same despite having previously repaired it. In the end I got Munich legends to do it properly with a replacement loom.

Hey smashie how's it going?

What you driving now?

I've not really invested much time in the old girl recently. I want to check out the electronics in the boot. I'll do some basic checks then I might get a professional involved. We'll see.

Hey ATM.
Currently a 4.25T 3L diesel motorhome and a Nissan Leaf. Got the electric bug when I had a B!W i3 as a 2nd car to my 550. Now got electric as my main and love it. I’m not doing it for environmental reasons as although I would like to say I don’t give a st, that’s not quite true, but It’s very near the bottom of my list of reasons.
