Had mine just over 2 years now. Haven't got round to doing anything I wanted to it but it's been a superb car so far.

Have done a few runs in my brothers new Cooper S - maybe 150 miles or so. Interesting comparing the two. The Mini is a nice place to be but I don't think it is as good a drive over all as the compact. The steering particularly lets it down for me. It is punchy though.

Hope to get an LSD and coilovers fitted and then just enjoy.

As an aside, have any UK owners fitted a supercharger?

Not a 325ti but I've seen m52/4 engines with superchargers on, vf vortech and rotrex do kits that should take power towards the 300 mark.

I like the idea!!!

What oil grade and brand are people using? Currently on Mobil 1 0w40 but it seems to drink it (possible CCV though).

Thinking 5w30 or 5w40 but Mobil, Castrol or a more niche brand like Millers, Motul or Fuchs! Car is mainly used on track.

Car needs an oil change so want to get 10L or so for future top ups as well.

Cheapstraightsix kindly accepted a deposit subject to inspection after the hols. Saying that though, it looks great in the pics and has clearly been properly maintained etc.

Nice work thumbup

That colour would have been my first choice but white sunroof cars come up so rarely that I was happy to have a black one with some decent options

I use Castrol edge 5/40 - it's on offer in Asda from time to time and I've had no oil consumption issues to speak of

I use Castrol Edge 5W40. Used 5W30 briefly but it basically disappeared...

I've used Castrol Edge 0W/40 in mine with no issues (often bought when on offer at Asda or Tesco).

But now my BMW Indy is using Shell (like BMW) I'll probably look for that now!

As an aside I've just come back from a few days away - a 480 mile round trip (on one tank of petrol - just) and it reminds me what a great car a 325ti is. thumbup

Thanks all, after a brief look we have:

Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 Pure Plus Fully Synthetic (8L, Opie) £51.95
Castrol Edge Titanium 5W-40 FST Fully Synthetic Car Engine Oil (8L, Opie) £59.90

So will have a think and go for one of those (no Asda's near me!)

I use the Helix Ultra in my E30 so will probably use in the E46 too.

Looking again I can actually get 10L for £3 more than 8L so I will go for that too and a genuine filter from Cotswold BMW when I order my thermostat.

Have a look at 5w30 Quantum Longlife 3, it’s VAG trade oil. It meets LL04 and VW507-which is a higher spec than 04. Very cheap direct from TPS, still cheap on eBay.

Guys just to check for CDV delete on these am I right in saying you just remove the valve and reconnect the line? There is no need to fit a modified valve?

Cheers.

Ps. If anyone needs a new set of tyres for a sport on 17s you could do worse than Kuhmo Ecsta ps71's, got all four for £290 fitted and impressed so far.

That is a bargain!

I paid £208 for 2 Pirelli P Zero 245/40 x 17 rears for mine in July 2015!

Anyway please wish me luck - I dropped mine off for an oil service, Insp I, brake fluid change, CDV delete and gearbox oil change yesterday!

I hope to collect it later, as it's booked for an MOT on Thursday!

Time will tell. laugh

Market Watch Update - Breaking News - stty Gold colour cars not in demand laugh

I'm sort of secretly pleased my car just failed to sell on ebay. I've not had it long, and not driven it much, but I used it again over the last few days just in case it did go. Absolutely love driving it. Insurance is up today though and I've got too many other things needing my attention (Namely, trying to get my son into a rally car). So I've just put it in storage for now. Will re-assess come next April and see just how much the Rally project is costing smile

At least by then I'll have a trailer and won't need to tax/insure the car for the road if I do take it on track.

Yea I thought so :-)

And good luck!!

I'll be in a similar position in the coming weeks as my cars going in to my local BMW dealer where my friend happens to work for a checkover, he's not one to paint a pretty picture where it isn't valid so will be getting a very frank appraisal of the car.. I'm nervous already lol

BTW if anyone has corroded centre caps like mine, my technician friend above sent me the link to some which he's had side by side with genuine ones and could not tell the difference, and they're only £6 odd for the set, mine have just arrived and indeed look the part. If you need the details let me know.

Likewise I've sent my spare key off (dead - not starting or unlocking) to a auto locksmith who for £20 will do the following

1. We replace all buttons inside the key
2. Replace the rechargeable battery with brand new original
3. Check and repair transponder circuit
4. Clean and re-solder circuit board
5. Test all functions of key

I'll let you know what happens when it comes back!
