Hi,
just bought myself a E66 760li, what a car for very little money, looked at a few and wow what dogs, not looked after, never cleaned and if you want to sell a car at least get rid of the wet dog smell, the one i bought has 85,000 mls, most of the toys, no corner scrapes and the hydrolic boot not working, i looked and it was low on oil ( pump working ) and an easy fix, now been around Europe a few time with friends ( they love the leg room ) it has taken some time to get used to the i-drive, but is very straight forward to use, taking it to BMW for the main service ( do my own as i'm a mechanic ) but doing the spark plugs is a big job and i don't have the time to do it myself.
I also have a E38 735i, on full air suspension and lpg conversion as a daily driver it's great and with lpg makes the 28 mpg more live-able as only 62 pence a ltr.

It actually did the first 200k in just three years! There is a very slight misfire at idle when cold, and cosmetically it's not wonderful (and the paint is full of orange peel), but it drives magnificently, as tight as a drum...

...and it only cost me £7000.

It's also had most of the big scary jobs done - coolant return pipe replaced, new ABS module, the gearbox has had a load of work done, new spark plugs, new lower front suspension arms, new coolant header tank, etc etc. Giving it about one third throttle on the A388, it leapt forward with alarming urgency. I haven't had the balls to get anywhere near full throttle yet.

201,003 miles at its first MoT in November 2008... which it failed on leaking rear air suspension units. It then did 2,511 miles with no MoT until it failed again on the same items a couple of weeks later, and finally passed the following day. Then only 7,773 miles to the 2009 MoT, 5,350 up to July 2011 (must have been off the road for much of 2010), then only 2,935 miles to March 2014, 4,782 miles to June 2015, then 14,729 in the following year, then 6,903 in 14 months or so to August 2017, 10,867 miles in August 2018, and just 3,088 miles in the ten months since. It hadn't been taxed since February until I taxed it a few minutes ago, which might explain the misfire. Certainly, the seller (who only acquired it a few months ago) fitted a new battery before it came south from Middlesbrough to Plymouth on the back of a lowloader this morning.

Yeah, I mean, who buys an expensive luxobarge for stupidly little money unseen on eBay at a distance of several hundred miles?

It's the second time I've done it. My E39 535i was the same. £595 (rather less than the £7k this cost, admittedly) cash on collection with one-way train tickets, via a steam railway, on the last train of the day. Other than a £2k gearbox rebuild exactly a year ago after it went pop, it has cost me precisely one spark plug (plus tyres) in four and a half years and 38,000 miles. Its MoT is due in a few days and it needs some extended TLC now, and as I've moved down to Devon (my wife, who still has the 520i Touring, along with the currently borked 540iT and now a 2008 630i drophead, is still working in Surrey, although she will be coming down to Devon when work allows), I needed some transport... and I saw this pop up on eBay while researching 630s for Mrs P6B. A few brave pills and an epic piece of man maths later, here it is...

Heh. Just don’t google the cost of an hpfp. wink

Oh, and you get used to the speed quick, as it’s just so easy to do it. Traffic light GP’s are fun, leave it in D and just floor it. All the way to 70 in 2nd, no gearchange, no drama, no fuss, but a lovely creamy snarl above 4k. If you’re of a mind, stick the dynamic drive to sport, and it’ll hustle back lanes better than you’d believe too.

Get a set of 18” wheels for winter - the ride is 100x better than on the 20’s, even if the style152 individual wheels suit the car (mine’s just like yours in orient blau/ platinum white/piano black).

The traction control is very conservative - switch it to the halfway house option & it drives much better. (It’s great fun to slide too - the long wheelbase means everything happens so slowly).

I love mine, it’s just such a good distance car. You’ll rapidly find that other car seats are just not good enough after the comfort ones here too.

Oh, and congrats! But now you need to bring it to a barge meet - we can have a doom-blue treble!

The spare is an 18. I will get some wheels when I have somewhere to store them, but I am currently in temporary digs while I house-hunt down here, which is a rather nomadic existence. On 20s it rides very acceptably - it feels like a big E39 to drive, really. That power could become addictive, though. I have a clean license and would prefer it remained that way...

As for the HPFP... remember, you are talking to the man who spent £2k repairing a £600 car. I think it's been done anyway.

Oh, and the colour is Blue Onyx, apparently.

Well, I've only done about 30 miles in it so far, but the signs are good at the moment. There are no squeaks or rattles, it steers very sharply for such a big thing and tracks dead straight, the power is there instantly, the gearbox doesn't hesitate... and it still feels like a driver's car, not a 260k barge.

You got yourself a very nice E66 Individual - so called composition with platinum white merino leather.

I have almost the same car - the difference being that mine does not have chrome trim but a high gloss black and instead of 4.8L N62 it's bonnet is concealing a humble 3 litre N52.

Mine is the full fat 5972cc V12! Slightly wish it had the 6.75, but hey ho, it certainly isn't lacking grunt.

I don't think so - I'm in West Devon, a hundred yards from the Tamar! The car was trucked down from Middlesbrough yesterday morning and I picked it up from RL Motor Services of Plympton (where I have left my E39 535i for some TLC and its MoT).

Oh yes, my bad. It has the amazing N73 engine - the last BMW V12 with port injection. Lucky man.

Nope... it’s direct injection, but it is indeed a lovely engine.
