Even if out of warranty, if there's a good BMWSH they will make a major contribution, one would hope.

I got 70% of a major bill paid for on a 6.5 year old car without warranty.
Out of curiosity, what is the story behind this? My 530D is now 6 years old, and I am weighing up the extra £150-200 cost for BMW to service the vehicle vs move to an indie, one of the reasons being the potential good will from BMW for sticking with them.

2008 Z4 bought new March 08 in Sussex. Serviced March 10 in Sussex then we moved to Norfolk. Serviced in Bury St Edmunds early 12. Serviced Norwich March 14. Nothing but oil changes really.

Fault occurred around August 14; warning lights about ABS module. Replaced at Norwich dealer who quoted the bill at £2300. BMW contributed £1600.

Possibly helped that we also have a 5 series bought from Norwich.

Jesus wept, that's some crazy $$$ frown

Currently got the 4 warning light error on my Z4c...ABS, TC, TPS etc..

Read the error codes and seems like it's just a dodgy speed sensor...coupled with the fact my rear CV boot is leaking grease in and around the same area, i'm hoping getting the CV boot fixed (today hopefully) and everything cleaned will fix the sensor issue..

Is there no way to get refurb ABS modules or something from breakers yard and re-code it?

Yes, seems crazy. I think the ABS module itself was around £1k. Some other bits but the rest is labour, which is understandable given that the module needs to be extracted through the wheel arch and, of course, the ridiculous rates charged. I think they also insisted on charging for diagnosing the fault, even though I'd given them the fault codes.

I had all the warning lights and the fault codes indicated the module. I could have removed it, had it rebuilt and refitted but didn't think it was worth it given the discount from BMW.

BTW we chopped it in within a few weeks of the work being done. The wife lost a bit of trust in it, and I can't say I was too impressed, the car hadn't done 30k miles and was still on its original tyres! We bought an SLK.

lol, I think it was the other way around...but funnily enough my dad and sis both have had SLK's - my dad's is on 200K + and still going strong!

It's kinda what led me to the Z4 in the first place, but went with the coupe as they're just look so frickin cool (for an older car in budget etc etc)

If you can running the extended warranty is definitely worth it on modern BMW's. One of the struts failed on the boot lid on my X5 last week (automatic closing so motorised). Had both repaired yesterday which would have been £1000 without my warranty. Excess is £250 so small "profit" but in the last few years I've had a warranty item every year each of which was a four figure sum.

Car's being traded in early March!

Seeing as we're heading off topic, got the update on mine..

Rear driveshaft needs replacing, near enough £600 from BMW, and special order..so maybe due in March sometime. eek

Thankfully the guys looking after the car have managed to source a 2nd hand part..and i've been reading up on reluctor rings which can apparently be replaced fairly cheaply.. (except for mine cause that's not the bit that's not borked apparently )

Anyway, hopefully they got the part in today, get it fitted and this fix's a few issues (at a reasonable cost!) at once...please god, pretty please frown

As said, if Pistonheads is running out of ideas I would flood every BMW forum you can find with the question. All the models come with LED lights of some form or another, and someone may have come across a similar issue!

Have you had a chance to run a diagnostic on the car to see is it's telling you what's up...

Seems to be a popular topic out there, one of these might give you some insight..

I've got a 640d 2012 with the hitherto brilliant LED adaptive lights

The front headlight on one side only stops working intermittently.....initially I thought it was just in need of a new bulb but I'm told by a local specialist that these are sealed units and there is no bulb to change

Has anyone any experience of fixing these lights or am I stuck with a (hugely expensive I suspect) new unit from BMW?
Did you find a solution to this problem? I have been having the exact same issue for the past 6 months or so but it has become really bad now, almost immediately after turning the lights on the left dipped beam stops working, it occasionally comes on if i flash my headlights and may remain on. The majority of the time it turns back off.

Could it be the LED controlling module? I have been told by BMW Enfield that a new bulb is around £250! So that would mean the bulb can be replaced. Does anyone know the best way to diagnose the problem?

Any help much appreciated,

Thanks.

Hello everybody , I made my registration here just because of Your topic. I have the same problem on my X6 (E71) Adaptive Led Headlights and I want to share my experience here because the LED headlights of E71 and F06/12/13 (turn signal under) are the same as construction and modules . I made diagnostic and the fault massage was saying that the problem is in LHM module (PN 7268672). I bought 3 modules ( two new ) and I try with all 3 , but no any change , the same on AUTO - left turn- low dipped fault......! I also swap the modules left and right , so the "faulty" one from left is working fine on the right headlight. There is NO different software versions for the LHM. All that makes me think the problem is inside the headlight and it is software or sensor reason and not cable , step motor, solder or mechanic , because of the exact moment and cyclicity of the problem. I have a damaged led headlight for F06/12 witch I am ready to sacrifice - cut , open to learn more ....! Looking from the covers holes cannot see any electronics , just cables , position cradle (up-down, left-right for hand adjustment,) over witch is attached the step motor . The step motor holds the aluminium radiator with the LEDS (osram). Any ideas for next step?

best regards

Does anyone know if this would be covered under BMW MOT protect that comes with BMW Service Inclusive Plus?
(I am assuming my car will fail it's MOT because of this?)

Can you provide more detail please? How old is your car, do you have service inclusive plus?

I have a similar issue? my local dealer can't give me an answer. I've got a 61 plate BMW 640d, with adaptive LED headlights. When I set my lights to auto and the lights are on, after a couple of minutes I get a warning (dip beam left failure), however all headlights are still working. If my lights are turned on normally not set to auto I never get this warning. I've had this problem for over a year now.
To overcome it I turn my lights on manually the old fashioned way, when it's dark. My main dealer had it in for an afternoon and couldn't find anything wrong, hence the reason I've left it so long. Anyone with adaptive LED headlights had any similar problems, I'd love to hear from you thanks in advance.
I have exactly the same problem on a 2013 640d .... did you ever get a resolution to the problem ?
thanks

So I have stumbled across this thread from BMWLander.

I too have a 640d '61 plate with LED headlights and I too have had passenger side dip beam failure.

As I did not want to pay the extortionate BMW cost to replace the headlight at £1700, albeit I guess there would have been some BMW contribution I decided to replace with a second hand unit from ebay.
The issue had sorted itself for a period however this 'new' second hand unit is starting to exhibit the same problem! My heart sank when I got the warning message and a flickering light!!

So my question is:
Shopper150 do you have any ideas how to sort this. (I no longer have an AUC or service inclusive plus)
Does anyone else have any suggestion on if these can be repaired. I had tried replacing the modules, but it is definitely the LED element itself giving up!
