Got it, thanks. So when I connect Mrs BC's phone I need to set her's up on CarPlay also?

I had thought I could do mine on CP and hers on the BMW interface.
Haven't tried different profiles yet...

I have the new idrive and Apple CarPlay and to be honest think I've wasted £230

The BMW standard pro nav pretty much does everything apple car play does equally as well but doesn't use apple maps.

If you use apple CarPlay to navigate and touch your phone you automatically lose what you see on the nav screen. So for example you're navigating and your passenger picks up your phone to check an email.....you lose your map screen. Or maybe on the school run your little angel plays a game.....you lose your apple screen and it all changes.

The navigation is not as intuitive as the BMW set up and I really don't understand currently where the product sits in a BMW.

I have a Mophie wireless case for my iPhone 7 and have a magnetic docking pad sitting infront of the gear stick in my X5 and that works well. I can't use the BMW charging setup because the phone it too big to fit in the tiny section on its side within the armrest but I understand that's changed in the new 5 series.

Apple CarPlay?

I wouldn't bother at the monent.
I wanted CsrPlay so I could stream Apple Music into the car, haven't tried that yet.

UPDATE- I bought a wireless cover for my iPhone 6 yesterday. It came complete with it's own charging pad for £25 and seems to work perfectly so far.

I just need to work out how to connect Mrs BC's iPhone without losing my connection.

So I'm getting there with the technology in the car. I had a dash cam fitted today, to access it by WiFi I have to turn off CarPlay, this was confusing but I managed it by turning off the car's WiFi. Does anybody know another way?

Also is the car WiFi chargeable after a certain time?

Getting there. rotate

Bump.

So I've been using CarPlay successfully for a few months but now it's decided not to work properly. My IPhone 6 connects to CarPlay UNLESS Mrs BC is also in the car with her IPhone. Her phone connects but mine doesn't. I can get it to connect by fiddling around in the menu turning the WiFi on and off and pressing lots of buttons - but it won't connect automatically any more.

The Genius guy at my dealership reckons it's because one phone is using car play and the other is connecting via BMW software which upsets everything. If I use CarPlay I can only connect one phone at a time.

So CarPlay is turned off now.

It's a Crock Of st IMO. frown
