Having got adaptive in my week old M140 I feel there needs to be a switch like the eco pro/comfort/sport to switch it out of action on some roads, as when you put the car into sport, the suspension sets to it, and on some roads that are a bit rough, I want the power but not the bounce! On fast a or b though, it is great and the car needs the additional damping over the standard setting, so overall it is worth having, it just means I have to put it back in comfort and use the throttle, or better still, sport auto plus in comfort, to get the best.

This is only a week though, and am getting used to it still. Min hasn't got HK which is a bugger after having it in my 435d M sport. The only other criticism is the car is too quiet, it definitely needs the MP exhaust, and could do with not being so well insulated from the drivetrain. It's a sport hatch so you should feel something, and these are a bit numb regarding mechanical nvh. Only a niggle, the OP will love the car, it's nicer than the 135, and when you do put your foot down, it can be a bit funny. There is an unresponsive area of the pedal, or map, but when past that the car dumps everything around you into the rear view mirror rather quickly. Only done that a couple of times not pushing too hard, and it's enough to make the fuel consumption worth it haha.

It is nice to have a quiet engine sometimes, and it warms up quicker than diesel of course, so warm air is quicker to arrive for what that's worth haha.

You know you can change that right?
You can set the "performance control" rocker switch to work the drivetrain & chassis, or drivetrain only, or chassis only.

I have mine set to drivetrain only as I like the sharper throttle pedal and better gearbox operation, but I also like the comfy suspension and lighter steering.

yes, set through the iDrive, but on the move that isn't so practical when the advantages of adaptive are so significant on the same journey sometimes, Ideally the performance rocker switch should be on the back of the steering wheel or on a thumb switch as it is, because i'm constantly on the thing haha.

I'll get more used to the car soon enough, but it's going in May anyway potentially. For the op though, it is a worthwhile option but not the end of the world

They are great cars. Mine was delivered early March and I've put 2,500 miles on it. I cannot seriously fault it, to be honest. It's properly quick and sounds fantastic (artificially aided, admittedly), yet when you pop it in Comfort mode, it wafts along with silky six cylinder smoothness. Many people have commented that it's two cars in one, which I think is right. It's a fabulous daily, and thanks mainly to that brilliant engine, has a good dose of character as well.

Traction in the dry on Super Sports is very good indeed. The car will take full throttle from low speeds without struggling for grip. In the wet, or over bumpy surfaces, it needs a lot more care, although the engine's delivery is very linear so you don't get any spikes to upset the car. Handling is really nice for the road, with a nice balance to the car. It feels rear driven, but not intimidating in the slightest. The systems are very good, with Sport+ giving you quite a lot of freedom to get the car moving about a bit, while retaining some electronic safety net. Perfect if, like me, you are not a powerfully built driving God.

Mine has Adaptive, which gives a very supple ride in Comfort mode. In Sport it's similar to the non-Adaptive, so the main benefit as far as I can tell is ride comfort. It sits on the motorway at 1800 RPM in 8th (auto) where it can be persuaded to nudge 40 mpg, although the average is sitting at 28 mpg. Still ridiculously good for the performance though.

I went for the HK sound system (essential - the standard stereo is 1984 Bush midi system standard), pro Nav (worth it), heated seats (Mrs Limpet's insistence, not mine), sun protection glass (kids love it), Sport Auto transmission (brilliant) and the Adaptive. If ride comfort isn't a big priority, I don't think you're missing out on much by not ticking it.

One thing to bear in mind is that parking sensors are NOT fitted as standard, and neither is cruise. You need the Driver Comfort pack for these bits.

Also got one on order! Mine was ordered 31st march and ive got a delivery date of wc 19th July crycry To be fair my Nissan Leaf doesnt go back til September but want it sooner!

Ive gone arctic white 3dr, auto, HK, heated seats, MPSS, front/rear parking w/ cruise. I drove a car without adaptive and the missus (she has a 435d cab with manual suspension) who agreed, adaptive wasnt needed.

Agree the car sounds a little quiet. The MPE is £900 so wont be going that route. Opening the back box and welding it seems a decent option for iirc £200. A centre section with resonator delete is also a option. The decat is just plain ASBO and comes with emissions/EML issues...

On Sunday I ordered my new M140, cant wait as ive never bought a brand new car before!

The spec is as follows:

5 door
Auto
Valencia Orange
Folding Mirrors
HK Surround sound
MPE

Delivery expected end of May.
Congrats OP. Mine was also the first new car I'd bought. I took delivery last March although it's the .05 poorer version.biggrin I seriously regret not getting the HK. Folding mirrors is useful and I also got the heated seats. People recommend the Pro Nav but mine is a commuter car and if I do any journeys, I use the family bus so it's wasted on me. Think I've used nav twice in a year on it and the standard was perfectly fine. I'd be interested in what the MPE gives you over the standard setup to see if it's value for money or not.

A couple of snaps of the unveiling to make your wait seem even longer!

Thank you very much for the post. I've got another month to wait but the last two weeks I'll be in Florida so will have something nice to come back to.

I wish now I'd gone for heated seats and parking sensors. I'm sure I'll still enjoy the car though. The MPE looks better especially with the carbon tips amid of course it'll sound better than the standard item.

I'll post some pics when I get it.

Have you got a month to wait because you're on holiday for two weeks (so the car will be sitting at the dealer for two weeks awaiting collection) or will the car not get to the dealer for another month? If the latter I wouldn't have thought it would have gone into build yet and therefore it may still be spec changeable if you want to add the heated seats and parking sensors. If it's too late I'm sure you could get the parking sensors done by the dealer but the heated seats might be more of a problem as a retro-fit!

I was told a couple of weeks ago that I couldn't make anymore changes. I was originally told that the car would be ready on the 18th when I fly two days before. When I told the dealer this he said he'd see what he could so I'm not sure what that means. I'll double check to see if it's gone in to build yet.
