I've gotten myself quite interested in an M4 (maybe M3/M2?) I quite like the thought of a convertible. I know very little about the must have extras, there also seems to be a big variation in prices? I guess the service pack makes a difference?

I'd be looking at 40-50k!

I wanted a convertible as Ive currently got an M3 convertible, however decides to go for a new M4 competition pack coupe.

The convertible just doesn't look as good, however it's personal choice.

I'd see it as a coupe I could occasionally put the roof down on! smile

I actually like the looks of the convertible.

Hi,

Only you can decide!

Read reviews, evaluate more about them both in your mind, arrange a few test drives of a few examples of each and make a decision. Simples.

Cheers, Dennis!

I've got an M4 Convertible Competition Pack. To me the added dimension of top down motoring substantially outweighs the compromises of the convertible over the coupe but YMMV.

Spec wise I have the following:
DCT gearbox
Head-up Display
Full leather - this really transforms the interior
Convertible Comfort Pack - essential on the convertible and includes wind deflector, air collar and heated steering wheel
Harmon Kardon
Rear Camera
Carbon trim
Adaptive Headlights / High Beam Assist

If ordering again I'd probably choose the same spec.

Great reply, thanks smile

What are the residues like? £5k a year?

I won't stretch to a car with competition pack frown

How much was the service pack? And, what savings will that contribute to a year? Worth searching out on a used car?

I got £10k off list for a new factory order. Realistically it probably means depreciation will be merely eye-watering rather than biblical smile I'd certainly anticipate more than £5k a year.

What sort of apr have people been getting on a used M4? I was planning to get a cayman 981 but drove an M4 yesterday and decided I'm going to go for one of those instead. Quote I got was 10.9% apr which was much too high and was wondering whether the main BMW dealers will reduce this to see if its worth trying to get them to lower it?

Also can the service pack be bought for a year old car that doesn't come with it? Also assume given the large numbers for sale that you should be able to negotiate a few thousand of the sticker price?

Thanks,

Yes you can buy the service pack - I did so last year when I bought a year old X5 M50d. It was quite a good deal IIRC, under £500 for the 5 year plan.

Service pack is 3 years now and is £999 for an M4.

Discounts are nowhere near what they were a year ago, so that might help residuals a little, but I'd still factor in considerably more than £5k per year for depreciation.

I got a new M4 comp pack coupe at the end of March and I'm expecting expecting more like £8k per year depreciation (even after taking discount into consideration) if I keep it 3 years.

I'm also considering a Jag XKR-S or a Grantorismo, both coupes, I don't know which might cost me the least to run per year?

I've no idea, to be honest. But I think that when looking at cars at around £50k, and not too old, the depreciation will most likely be the biggest factor in the 'per year' running cost.

id say the M4 coupe is the ugliest of the lot.
M4 convertible is lovely and so is the M3 saloon

I took the plunge on a M4 convertible about a month ago, i love it, sold my C63 AMG coupe (2013 Performance pack plus version)

Mine has the LED adaptive lights, convertible comfort pack, Harmon Kardon, carbon trim, reversing camera, HUD, DCT, rear seat pass through, service pack till 2020.

Colour, Yas Marina Blue with Silverstone merino leather.

Performance seems to be pretty much on par with the C63, plenty quick enough, maybe not as dynamically polished as the coupe but thats the trade off to dropping the roof.
