Ordered a new 440i M Sport a couple of weeks ago. Very happy with the spec (Tanzanite blue with opal white merino leather) and the deal. I've been quoted w/c 18 September build slot. Seems a long time to wait. Just wondering if the BMW cognoscenti consider this a normal time frame? Thanks.

Have you ordered anything from the individual range, such as the colour, upholstery, I have often read here examples of where that has increased timescales.
Not with anything individual added, my only new BMW was ordered 19/1/2017 and in my hands 14 March. But that was X1 M Sport, your more interesting car could logically take longer. I'm not sure if the factory closes for a summer holiday, that could also be a factor.

I'm sure someone more cognoscenti, will have more informatione. wink But I thought I'd chip in.

Factory order to my spec for my 440i M Sport cabrio was 6~7 weeks from order to driveway - that was back in September last year. A number of options, but no BMW Individual stuff.

Thanks gents. Yes, paint and leather are both from the individual range, so I guess that explains the slightly longer lead time. You could also be right Smuler about the summer holiday period being a factor; I think I've seen that mentioned on here before. Oh well, the best things come to those that wait...

Thanks Andy. Are you enjoying your 440i? I've read some really positive comments on this model, not least about the engine.

Ordered my 440 GC 3 weeks ago for September delivery. Dealer delayed order so it wouldn't be sitting around in a field somewhere before I got it.
Rumour mill has it that from July build they should get touchscreen I drive. Nothing definite yet but I was told mine would be end of July build.
Mine is pretty well vanilla apart from towbar, digital dash and a couple of other small bits.

Excitement. My first new car. :-)

The 440i engine sounds wonderful - like a BMW straight six should. Makes the M4 sound like a diesel.

Lack of B58 engines according to TRL, BMW have stopped allowing dealers to change the spec of their cooking diesel allocation into x40i models to ensure they have enough engines, so there may well be a shortage of good deals around now as each dealer only usually has a couple of the x40i specs allocated each month so demand will likely outstrip supply.

Interesting stuff. I was quoted a September delivery for a 440i GC earlier this week but told if I order Individual paint or leather it could push that further back meaning the deal might not qualify for the current discount BMW is offering.

Found a nice 340i Touring demonstrator with a spec I like which is cheaper on road tax but seems to work out more expensive than a new car on PCP. Need to check my numbers but something doesn't quite add up. Maybe I should just get a personal loan and go for it...

Presumably once you've paid the deposit, a deal is a deal. I don't mind waiting for the car, but if they even suggested changing the details of the PCP and discount, then I'd be walking away. New car does indeed work out cheaper than pre-registered cars and demonstrators. Discounts are more substantial and the APR is 2.9% rather than 6.something. All adds up.

Yes, I suspected that may be the case. Thanks - my numbers aren't wrong after all.

I have a 240 convertible, you will love the engine.
Cold start sounds fantastic, then car settles down becoming very docile followed by a quick prod of the throttle and youve just gained a serious amount of speed.

I have some nice cars, this as a package (apart from rattles and squeeks not befitting a £45k car) takes some beating.

My friend ordered a 340i touring on the 10th of April, and the car was ready by the second week of May. The initial quote from the dealer was 10 weeks

Build slots for B58 engines are currently late Sep/early October. There is a 3 week factory shut-down imminent at Munich where the F32 is built.

Absolutely loving it. The engine is an absolute peach - sounds wonderful when pressing on, and bloody good on the gas when not. More than fast enough, handles/steers well, and I even like it inside (I did go full Coral). I swapped out of a 640d CG and can't understand why I didn't do that sooner.

Only issue is the injector noise (Google it) - significant improvement with high octane gas, but still present.

It's a bloody good car.

ETA - get the H&K sound system - well worth every penny.

BMW suffered a parts supply issue from Bosch that affected the 3 & 4 series, reported last week. This could have resulted in longer lead times...

Superb! I'm wishing away the next 2-3 months now. smile
Yes, have specced the HK sound system. Looking forward to actually hearing some music again after the truly laughable sound system in my 599.

I asked how long for a similar spec and they told me 8-10 weeks but would contact me in July for September delivery

HK is good.

The two options I find myself enjoying the most are the adaptive LED and the adaptive cruise both of which make driving less tiring. I also put the MPPK on mine before delivery as I was able to test drive a 340 with and without it at the dealer and felt that it was more responsive with.

It's worth the wait.

If you read my link the restriction on dealer order engine swapping was only put in place in the last week, so will only affect new orders still waiting to go into production. To get an order in 4 weeks means your friend got lucky and piggybacked onto an existing dealer stock/demo build slot just before the spec gets locked down, a fresh order from zero was taking about 3 months give or take a couple of weeks even before this engine shortage.
