New 440i M Sport build lead time
Discussion
You've gone for exactly the same specification 440i GC as me. Tanzanite blue is awesome when the sun is shining, merino white opal looks amazing but is a pain to keep clean. The fully leather dash is a must have option as it really lifts the cabin - did you get that?. I also went for the MPPSK which make the car sound incredible and it goes like stink. Really pleased with my car
I ordered in early October and collected 24th December - what a great Christmas present. The individual options did take slightly longer than a normal build but I did recieve the car 2 weeks earlier than my initial build date.
The wait is a killer, the reward was worth the pain.

Great to hear that Dave. Actually I haven't chosen the full leather dash, although I guess it's not too late to change that. The sales brochure is a bit confusing but it looks like a £1,000 option? Would you be able to post a photo of that part of the interior on your car? Thanks.I ordered in early October and collected 24th December - what a great Christmas present. Congrats!!!
I'm currently 2/3 way through the torturous wait. You've only yourself to blame for the long wait, as soon as you specify Individual items it extends the delivery time.
I've added a lot to my car too, so even though I ordered 14th April, my car isn't due until w/c 17th July. Once it gets to Sytner it's got a stack of stuff to be fitted too.
I've gone for: BSM, Individual Opal White Merino Leather, Individual Leather Dash, Individual Piano Trim, Icon Adaptive LED's, M Sport Plus Package, HUD, Digital Dash, Reverse Camera, Lumbar, Folding / dimming mirrors, M Performance 405M 20" Wheels, M Performance Aerodynamic Pack and finally the M Performance Power and Sound Kit.
The wait is KILLING ME!!!

Wow, you've really gone for it. Nice choices. Not long for you now! San Marino is an amazing colour and I was tempted myself; just that I was already pushing the budget I'd set myself so had to draw the line somewhere.I'm currently 2/3 way through the torturous wait. BSM = Black Sapphire Metallic.I wanted Grigio Telesto, but the price went crazy so I also drew the line.... just went a little too far in the first place!
San Marino blue is epic though.

Wait is KILLING ME now. Mid-September scheduled delivery. Not long now.
Maybe you could ease the pain and let us know how you're getting on with your new 440? Great spec! Trust you're enjoying it.
Okay, so I'm a patient man, but.....ordered a new 440i M Sport on 10 May and just had an update from the dealer to say that delivery is now pushed back to the end of October (original estimate at time of order was first week of September). I've specced individual paint and leather, so I was anticipating a delay, but seriously...we're talking almost 6 months. Not much I can do, obviously. But this is a long wait, no? Should I be yelling at my dealer by now?
Some dealers seem to practice smoke and mirrors when giving updates on orders so I'd suggest asking them for your AG build order number so you can track it yourself via the BMW Genius chat on the BMW website.

Sorry to hear of your delay, but it'll be worth it.I have a 340i Touring, ordered in Feb (2016) with an estimated delivery date of June. I had the Individual Leather Dash option. The delivery date got pushed back to July, then August, then September. I has a lease car at the time, with it being returned on 1st Sept. In the end my car turned up mid September - over 6 months after ordering - with me driving around in the Sales Manager's 335d for 2 weeks after my lease car went back.
I complained to my dealer but, aside from putting me in the 335d to ensure mobility, that was all. I did however also complain to BMW UK which did bear some fruit; they offered to refund the 5 year service back (£515) which was nice, especially as I didn't pay for it in the first place (negotiated into the original deal)!

How are you enjoying your car...and that peachy 3-litre turbo engine?
10 days into 440i ownership. Still running in.
I can state that the engine is NOT peachy.
It's much better than that!
Coupled with the ZF box, it is a wonder.
Below 3k its a kitten with slushy changes and so quiet inside, I've had to take my mints out of the tin because I can hear them vibrating over the bumps!!
Over 3k (and I'm limiting myself to 4k) it starts to howl and gearchanges on the lever bring a satisfying thump on the spine.
Overtaking slower traffic is sheer point and squirt - most unlike my previous 335d, which itself was no slouch.
Loving it!

That is a really good post very illuminating that its far better than the 335d engine wise, genuine question bearing in mind in 62000 miles mostly motorway my 330d has never really gone over 2000 RPM unless im italian tuning to blow it out where can you ever use these 3/4000 revs on UK roads or is it set up in such a way that those revs are accessible I can state that the engine is NOT peachy.

Superb. That's great to hear, thanks. I can state that the engine is NOT peachy.

Pleased to hear you're liking your new car but is it really a much better overtaking machine than a 335d? I can well believe things like refinement and noise are notably superior to the oil burner but I reckon my F31 335d is pretty effective when it comes to overtaking thanks to the combination of lots of torque and an auto box that keeps the engine in the sweet spot. Therefore, if a 440i is significantly quicker between (say) 30 and 90 I'd be quite surprised to be honest; no significant advantage in bhp and less torque so where's all the extra performance coming from? The diesel doesn't weigh that much more!JNW1 said:

Again interesting, so long since I drove a decent Petrol myself,,,from autocar I quote For the most impressive performance, you’re going to want one of the top-spec cars. The petrol 440i in particular is a delight, it’s smooth and free-revving with a power delivery that stretches right from 1380rpm, where it hits peak torque, to 6400rpm where maximum power starts to tail off. The turbos do mute induction noise, but there remains an enticing exhaust note to compensate.
The 435d has simply epic stats and that translates into eye-widening acceleration at pretty much any speed on the road. Although, like so many ‘hot’ diesels, it doesn’t like to rev. Upshifts need to be dealt with at 4000rpm, well shy of the nominal 5000rpm redline.

The 6-pot diesels pull a high top gear so yes the engine isn't spinning quickly when cruising on a motorway (2k revs equates to 90mph in my 335d); however, if you're overtaking on give and take A-roads in my experience it's quite easy to see 3k-4k revs (my car does regularly and often!). I would guess the 440i is probably a touch lower geared than the diesels so getting the far side of 5k revs is quite likely when overtaking (plus of course there's no doubt a pleasure to be had from revving the engine which isn't really there with the diesel!).Edited by smashy on Friday 22 September 18:25
