Hi hoping someone can help,
58 plate 116i about 55000 miles

Intermittently conks out with the engine management light alight at low revs with warm engine and pulling away, loses power dies then won't restart turns over but won't fire or starts chugs and dies as soon as you rev it.
Each time you call breakdown or leave it for 20-40 minutes and then by magic starts and drives fine with no warning lights for a few days or week until it does it again.
So far had new battery,
New coils,
Both High pressure and Low pressure fuel pumps replaced
Still happening , only fault codes stored were low fuel pressure hence replacing the pumps but still no joy .

Any help greatly appreciated thanks

Rail pressure fault codes on these are normally caused by the rail low pressure sensor on the fuel rail.

Crankshaft sensor - they fail for fun, and often don't flag up a fault code.

They're great fun to change.

Final update to this problem,
Changed high and low pressure fuel pumps
Crank sensor
Fuel pressure sensor
Thermostat
Problem still occurring
Father in law came to conclusion he thinks water pump is gone and when car gets too hot on stop start driving it shuts down, only to start again when it's cooled a bit .

Apparently new water pump big money and job cars a cat D anyway so we offloaded to we buy any car and brought something else. If u have this problem get rid off the car asap don't waste money we spent 500 quid still didn't fix it.
