Mondial warranty question
Discussion
Hi
Hoping someone can render some advice please.
I put my car into a dealer to investigate a suspension issue (loose feeling on front). They diagnosed a rear shock failed and both front wishbones. Initially said shock was covered but not wishbones. After I called Mondial the dealer then agreed to out the shock and wishbones through the warranty as it was indeed all covered.
Looking on TIS BMW state that shocks must be replaced in pairs if vehicle has done over 80000km. TIS also states that if wishbones are replaced then an alignment must be carried out.
The dealer is refusing this stating that an alignment is not required and that only one shock will be replaced.
Does that sound right? Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

I get the feeling that they just make this stuff up as they go along. When I had a suspected fault with a front adaptive damper (a £1,500 part if they are to be believed), they replaced just one under the original BMW warranty, as the car had covered less than 36,000 miles. I have a feeling that this mileage figure is set to whatever your car has done plus a bit more...
It turns out that the damper wasn't the problem anyway - some muppet had cross threaded a bolt on the front strut brace.

I find that Mondial are very reasonable and most issues you get are ones where the claim never gets anywhere near Mondial. The dealers seem to try and 'gatekeep' with varying degrees of success.
Spot on. I spoke to Mondial and they were very reasonable. Said they'd cover whatever BMW require, if that is a pair then so be it. Dealer initially told me they'd spoken to warranty company who said no, and yet Mondial said they'd received no such enquiry. "Spoken to warranty" I believe means they spoke to their gatekeeper person. My belief is that the dealers may well be submitting a claim for XYZ but only fitting XY.
This same dealer had also previously tried to tell me the wishbones were not covered "after speaking to the warranty" and yet they were covered after i enquired direct to Mondial (who again had received no direct call from dealer). I don't actually believe the wishbones need changing but suspect the dealer couldn't find anything wrong (I still say it's a front shock at fault) so thought they'd hit me with a 900 quid bill.
Me cynical? Yup. Don't trust BMW dealer any more than dodgy mcpherson's back st garage Co.

Also, as someone mentioned - whatever is bmws recommended replacement advice - like what is stated in tis or service bulletins - is what should happen and what warranty will cover
