Good work. Any time I see anybody find one of these it just makes me think of how much time I spent staring at the classifieds when I was looking for a manual E90 M Sport a couple of years ago. Eventually I found one, but it took 3 months of nightly trawls through autotrader/PH/vcars/gumtree. Lots of automatics, lots of halogen headlights, lots with silver paint and/or black leather...

And there are loads more of those than there are E91s of any type!

Why are the auto wipers on my E91 worse than those on my E46?

E91's wipers don't seem sensitive enough, even on the highest setting. E46's wiper seem spot on with the 2nd most sensitive setting.
Has your windscreen been replaced on your e91? Apparently the part where the sensor is can be thicker on replacement windscreens, making the auto lights and wipers slower to react.
I have to be honest, my E91 has the same issue with it's wipers - the highest setting still isn't sensitive enough sometimes. My headlights on the other hand are too sensitive, seem to come on as soon as the sky clouds over!!
Autolight sensitivity seems good (better than my Z4).

I wouldn't mind so much about the wipers, it's just the older model's system just seems better!

You can get the rain sensitivity re-set. I did a year ago when in for a service and certainly made a difference.
Interesting to know, will bear in mind.

Along with the garbage sound quality from the ICE I found the rain sensing wipers to be the most irritating element of E91 ownership.
hehe You liked your wipers too then?

@Maniak91 - congrats, great car. cool

Already told my wife her next car will be a 335i. biggrin

I must have set my sights too low at 250 bhp!

I got an E90 330i to replace my E91 325i earlier this year.
My current (or soon to be ex) daily is a e46 touring 330i manual with LPG ( don't shoot me yet) , and its the most economical and reliable car i ever had, with plenty of power for everyday use. I wanted something similar again, so I was actually looking for a e61 530i manual or E91 330i manual, both with N52 so i can convert them to LPG. So when i found this 335i, it wasn't really my ideal shopping list for a daily (but still had the basic i look for in any of my cars: manual rwd with plenty of juice) , but since they seem to come up for sale a bit more often than a e61 530i manual (crazy i know), i thought why not.

And i have to agree with everyone, the wiper speed seems to be constantly wrong: either too fast, or too slow.

Mine came to me through the thread. Didn’t want to wait for an ad to go live to swooped in. I saw on an E9x Facebook page someone is selling an N52 Manual M Sport touring with 168k on it for £3,500. Some have laughed at him but that’s not a bad price truth be told. I don’t think he’ll have trouble selling.

Thanks for all the replies.

I went back to my tyre place and they tried to re-balance them this morning. Both wheels required a lot of weight, one in particular over 200g. The vibration is less now, but still there.

Although the inside of the rim did not look bent to the naked eye, when looking at one spot on the rim, I could notice an 'up&down' movement as it was spinning on the balance machine. It is possible the alloys are out of true...but it could be the tyres, given that I didn't have issues with the old tyres that came off. I just do not know...

In summary, both wheels now have ALOT of weights on them, and I don't think there is much more that can be done from a balancing perspective. I may have to see how I go with it and then take it to an alloy refurbisher and ask them to check if wheel is buckled.

Hi All,
A quick update as I have now sorted this issue...I found a garage with Hunter roadforce wheel balancing machine and it revealed that one of the alloys was buckled slightly but could still be balanced by rotating heaviest point of tyre to the area of the buckle. The other wheel was not buckled, but just badly balanced by the other garage. I also treated the car to a Hunter wheel alignment at the same place.

I have been driving for well over 500 miles on various roads and their is no vibration, just butter smoothness. So, the Hunter Roadforce machine is worth using when faced with balance issues normal machines cannot iron out.

I don't think you need a specific machine to pick up a buckle, you can normally see them and you will be surprised what can be balanced out.

Well, I picked up another E91 today.

I had been thinking about swapping for a G31 540i Touring, and made an offer on a couple, but thought maybe an M340i Touring might be better, then thought do I really want finance on a car any more? So considerd an F31 340i but just not sure about the F30.

So started looking for a 535 Touring and I had actually done a deal on one at a more than fair price, and was going to move on my 520d, but then thought about it a bit more and decided that the 520d does everything so well for what I use it for, LCI SE so super comfy, quiet enough, mapped to 235hp so never feels slow, the b47 engine amazes me at how refined it is, certainly as refined as the N57 it replaced, does 44mpg round town and normally 55mpg on my London run and now at 90k miles worth around £10k and a packet of Wotsits at best. So may as well keep it and buy something else as well.

The obvious choice was another E91, to me they just strike the perfect balance of old school feel but still not too dated, had to be the 330i as I just love a NA engine, I liked my 335i a lot, but always preferred the 330i, and as a second car it makes more sense. If I was doing more motorway stuff the FI 335i would be a good shout.

I also wanted one without nav, I find my NBT nav in my F11 a bit dated, and so thought that if I keep this long term a car without nav might be a better option. I would even consider the on dash ID7 style Android units if I use it more.

But for now, just nice to be back in another E91, my fifth since I got the 335i back in 2006.

Excuse the pic, it was actually really dark outside.....

That looks tasty, Giz. Manual, or auto? The N52 is a very satisfying engine. I still think it feels quite strong.

I like the look of the F31 340i, moreso with the rare alacantara interior. I've not driven one though, and some don't think they feel all that good. The G30/31 doesn't really do it for me. The buttons are too 'clicky'. BMW buttons should press nicely.

It's an auto, I always like the idea of a manual, but the reality of it means they never last long.
I went for a blat around the back roads earlier and put it in manual mode and still love the N52 when you keep it in that 3500-6500rpm range, the throttle response and the way you can control it is great for a dog carrier.

The F31 is the only 3er touring I have not owned.

E30 325i, E36 328i, E46 328i, 330d, 320d, 330i, E91 335i, 320d, 330i, 330d, another 320d and this 330i.

So a bit of a fan of 3er Tourings, I have tried to like the F31, and the 430i with the shadow pack I love in just about all the colours, but I can't. I have nearly bitten the bullet 3, maybe 4 times now, but after going for another test I just can't go for it.

What I may end up doing is keeping this 330i Touring and then get something more comfort based as my other car, S Class or 7 Series or something?

I may find that it just doesn't get used at all, the F11 or the E91 and decide paying insurance, car tax, fuel, servicing and rent on a second garage (which I have to do) simply isn't worth it and sell one of them, or both and swap for something else. But right now, I am pleased I got this and kept my F11.

That photo is similar to the one I took years ago of my old E91, outside the same place, now painted green though....

That's nice, and a good collection of 3 tourings. I've owned E36, 46, and 91. Those are the 18 inch M3 wheels, aren't they? How did they fit? I sort of want something a little different to my regular summer MV3 wheels.

Yeah, style 261 or 260 I think they are from memory.
They go on no problem on pre lci cars, I think I was the first to try them. I bought them for £400.
The tyres rubbed on the rear though, but the M3 uses an oversized tyre, on normal size E90/1 tyres they were fine.

I would like another pair for this car, but prices seem far higher now!

Check the seals on the bulb holders are intact. Silica gel sachets overnight in the light (make sure you can retrieve them) may help dry them out.

Good to hear you got it sorted, and that's useful to know.

Loved your 3rd and 4th photos by the way - your car even has the same wheels as my 55 plate 330i (even if it is a different colour).

There is just something about a 330i with the N52 engine!

M57 people: I've recently pulled codes for all six glow plugs, which I'm led to believe is more likely the glow plug module? Rather than the simultaneous failure of all six plugs :\

It's booked in for a service at my local indi on Monday, so I'm going to ask them to look into it. David Paul of Warrington, if anyone's heard/used them?

Thanks.

We had this happen once 2 or 3 years ago during the winter on the drivers side headlight unit, I removed the indicator bulb holder, and used a hair dryer on full blast to try and dry it out - which helped, but didn't fully clear it (there was a lot of moisture in there).

Warmer weather came during the Spring, and it dried out completely and hasn't happened again since (touch wood!).

I've had this also. In the end I just left a silica gel pack in there over the weekend. Sorted it!

My 335i failed it's MOT today with a leaking rear damper.

I am looking on Euro Car Parts for a suitable replacement, but a bit puzzled.

My car is an early SE (56 plate) with "s226a sports suspension settings" on the options list.

I have read all 335s have sport suspension, is this different to m-sport suspension?

I can get two of the last (Bilstein) ones for about £75, and given the fitment detail, it's probably the best bet?

I'd like to avoid it being under/overdamped, if I do/don't have the sport/m-sport springing.

Naturally there's a discount code for up to 50% off so the quoted prices are higher than i'd pay.

Anyone able to shed some light on this please?

that's my old car. It's a cracking car. Brill to drive and doesnt go through oil. I only got rid cos the logic7 stopped working and I didn't see the point spending loads to fix it. If that's been sorted then all good. I part ex it for a 630i

Found one (albeit a saloon, not a touring), within 5 miles of my house. What do you think? looks promising...
