Extra £500 because it's a touring. Bonus points for three BMWs.

328ci gone, went off to Poland “to be restored” which I presume meant that they were having the engine out. Sold it for £475 on 180k. Tin worm got hold of it in a pretty big way. Slight thread derailment but Christ I loved that car. Went all round Europe in it.
First born came home from hospital in the E91 so that won’t be an easy sell either....

Went to test drive an E90 325i (N52) manual earlier today (primarily for my dad). Smooth (as expected) but did feel pretty slow compared to my E46 330, never mind the E91 330i.

Looked at the specs, although the power isn't bad at 218bhp, quite surprised how down on torque it is, only 184 lbft. My old E36 328 (with 206 lbft) felt just as fast tbh.

They pick up a bit nearer the red line. But yeah, motorway acceleration in 6th isn't great and was quite a shock after my 9-5 aero.

Great minds think alike. I also had a 328ci before my E91 330i, and mine went abroad to donate its engine too. My 328ci was the best car I ever owned, and also went all around Europe too. Rust also took hold of it in the end so I called it a day. The old 2.8 in it felt very similar in charatcer to my 330i, only the 330i doesn't run out of steam over 5300RPM. If the subframe mounts hadn't failed I'd still be rattling around in it now. I did a lot of work on mine, but bought it as a project. Never let me down and consumed 0 oil in the 40,000 miles I smashed on it in two years.

I sold an E36 328i a few years ago which also went to Poland-on a car transporter loaded with old BMWs!

Only just become aware of auto gearbox 're-maps'. Can they be applied to a 330i or 325i too? Only seen 335i and 335d auto boxes mentioned.

It might make a 330i auto a bit more attractive if I could get the character of the box changed.

Yes. There's multiple 'stages' that can be flashed on. smile

A Polish chap bought mine, put it on a trailer to send it to Holland. Painless buying process, He sent me a deposit through PayPay within 10 mins of the ad going up, and then came with a trailer on the back of an X5 for it. Easiest sale of a car I've ever had!

From what I've seen on E9x owners groups, the stage 3 is a little too agressive for normal driving, but stage 2 is about right most of the time.

Ah right, I thought D was fairly standard for normal driving and then M was for hooning.

That's interesting - I thought it might just be me.

When I decided I wanted a Touring to replace my E46 325ti Compact 2 years ago E91 manual 330is were very hard to find, and nearly twice the price of 325is. rolleyes

So I bought a 325i E91 and soon thought the same as you. Very smooth and refined and it would happily rev out (eventually), but it just felt gutless even compared to my Compact - especially trying to accelerate in 6th gear on motorways.

Which is why last year I talked myself into an E90 330i for not much more money (and it does have the split/fold rear seats)!

Given that they both cost the same to run I think any premium you pay for a 330i will be recovered when you sell, so if a 330i is in budget I really wouldn't bother with a 325i again.

I have the XHP S2 on my 335d. I didn't see the need for S3 given the extra stress it puts on the box over S2.

It's night and day better than the OE ZF flash. The much-improved converter lockup is worth the money alone.

We've had a couple of E46 coupes over the years (including a 330 Ci). Our daily driver today (and our only car at the moment) is an N52 325i.

The E46 feels quicker (makes more dramatic sounds when you put your foot down, feels rawer) - but I think a lot of the difference between the two is down to the fact the E9x is more refined/better insulated from the road. I don't think the difference in performance between the two is as much as it necessarily feels on the road.
