E91 Straight Six Bearding
Discussion
Hi All,
My 2005 E90 330i front brake pad warning light has illuminated and iDrive states that I have 2900 miles remaining. I will do a visual check shortly, but figured I may as well change the pads. I have two questions:
1) Which pads are best for the car - OEM or another recommended manufacturer like Pagid?
2) Where is the best place to get the brake pads and sensor from?
I plan to change the pads and sensor myself.

Amir, I tend to buy genuine BMW brake parts nowadays. BMW do a ‘value line’ kit that includes pads and a wear sensor together for a reasonable price.
It’s also worth noting that the brake disc thickness needs to be measured. If they’re below the minimum thickness, the discs will need replacing, too. BMW also recommend that if over 48 months old, the anti-rattle clips should be replaced, too. Many don’t and it’s fine, though.
If you’re not wanting genuine BMW parts, Pagid pads and a pagid wear sensor can be had from Places like ECP and will be excellent. Same with discs. I personally don’t like Brembo brake components after some poor experiences in the past.

As above. The value line sets are good value. If you don’t want genuine I recommend ATE for brakes or any other reputable manufacturer. I had problems with Pagid pads squeaking in the past. I've had bad experiences with Brembo on E90, too. It’s also worth noting that the brake disc thickness needs to be measured. If they’re below the minimum thickness, the discs will need replacing, too. So back to the slightly flaccid tailgate wiper
It's not as bad as some but it was annoying me anyway. Adjusting the arm by one spline takes it too far so I'd been looking further at why it might get a bit saggy with age. Looking at the mechanism there's not much that could result in this, but the pivot does have a rubber "sheath" for want of a better word, which acts as a soft stop for the pivot.
This rubber looks to be a bit worn and isn't separately listed from the pivot assembly. So I dug out some narrow double sided 3M tape I bought a while back to restick the sun shade clips. It's only .78mm thick so I knew I could build it up to what would be required. 3 strips and it now has a much more pert wiper.
Might give it a wash and wax soon as it's well overdue.

Sold mine yesterday, so probably persona non grata on this thread from now on.
Part of me wanted to keep it, but the list of jobs that needed doing was getting longer and longer.
Replaced with a 340i Touring. Not driven it much, but initial impressions are that the tech and ride quality are better, but the steering is rubbish and you don’t feel very connected to the road. Hoping that some more character will emerge as I drive it more.

I agree with you on the steering point, I found the same when I went from E91 to F31.Part of me wanted to keep it, but the list of jobs that needed doing was getting longer and longer.

I ran a F13 640d and a E90 330i together for a while, and I much preferred the steering in the E90 for sure. The F13 steering was the worst bit about the car for me. Swervin_Mervin said:

Makes sense. Thank you. I think mines somewhere between the two. It's not as bad as some but it was annoying me anyway. Dark line lights look great with the blue paint, too. I think they work best on blue or silver cars.

Sorry for another question...where is the best place to buy the value line brake pads? The realOEM part number for my car is: 34112288875 It’s also worth noting that the brake disc thickness needs to be measured. PS: I checked the brake pads, and they have lots of meat on them still. I will keep monitoring and live with the warning message for now. I think there is an easy 2.5k miles that can be had from them!

Ours developed a small squeak from the fans on speed setting 2 and 3, so I took the fan out this afternoon and oiled the bearings.
Fortunately that seems to have solved the squeak, and who doesn't love a 20 minute fix that costs nothing!
Had to do the same on my 130.Fortunately that seems to have solved the squeak, and who doesn't love a 20 minute fix that costs nothing!
There was a crispy leaf in there as well. It’s not come back (yet).
Agree re the steering on the latest BMW’s. I think the steering on my E81 is a bit nicer than the steering on my M140i despite both being electric.
