Came across this one whilst prowling potentially for another E91, colour is Barrique Red Metallic which I don't think I've really seen before. eBay item number:127430820666
There was a manual 330i for sale at a garage near me back in 2014 but while I was making my mind up it sold. Looked lovely in the photos with a cream interior. I didn't realise back then quite how desirable a manual E91 330i was!

I ended up buying a Ruby Black E86 instead.

Does anyone need a spare brand new OEM BMW ‘Eldor’ ignition coil?

Bought it for my previous 130i as a spare; but it never got used

It’s on eBay currently but happy to reduce the price for a PH’er

Is anyone running 225/50 R17 tyres?

Cracked both nearside MV3's on the 325i and pondering a square set of 17's off a F30 instead.

They might be a bit tall. 225/45/17 is the size for an E90. I have that size as winters on my 330i.

I’ve used that size on a 335i with winter tyres was fine.

I ran a set of F30 wheels with those tyre sizes on my 325i without any problems, although when I needed a couple of new tyres I went back to the standard 225/45 size.

225 50 17 are standard size for base e60/e61

I've had them on my 550i

Thanks chaps, such a shame about the MV3's, really like them, but living with rubbish roads it seems any replacements are just as likely to crack as all 2nd hand ones are now quite old. The F30 wheels open up some newer options and think 17's will also be more suitable for the 17yr soon to be driving the car.....

You can look for a tyre size calculator online to work out the increase in circumference and any difference in speedo reading - it should only be a couple of mph out.

Are the offsets / bolt hole layouts the same between e9x and f3x models?

The PCD is the same between e90 and F30 at 5 x 120 but the F30 uses larger M14x1.25 wheel bolts rather than M12x1.5.
Rolling diameter goes up from 633mm to 654mm which give a 3.1% error on speedo.

Gents!

The internet is failing me, so if I may impinge on the wise denizens of PH...

Do the M57 engines have some sort of 'cold weather protection' in terms of restricting boost until properly/fully warmed up?

Or if the outside temperature is below a certain figure?

Or do they do the VAG thing of going into overboost protection that won't clear until switched off and on again?

Asking for a friend...

Thank you very much in advance for any assistance! smile

Don’t think so. I’ve had three M57s and none have any of the features you describe.

Hive mind - I've probably asked this question a million times before, but can't recall. Is there a way to disable the rain sensors and have the switch revert to being a variable intermittent wipe?

I don’t think there is too easily. If you have INPA you can re initialise the sensor, and that often helps issues. Is your rain sensor a bit crap, Mervin?

My M57 had the cold weather feature of knackered glow plugs, meaning it took ages to get started in winter then gassed most of the local population with all the smoke that came out of the back hehe

This was in an E46, don't remember any of the other behaviour you mention.

It is, and always has been, absolute garbage. However, it seems to be particularly crap at the moment.

Tbh, I don't like them on any car we've ever had, but that's probably just me. The variable intermittent I had on my 197 was a thousand times better.

They are great. I’ve run one to over 250k miles, it was still going strong. Current is only on 140k.

Hi All,

On a tyre change today on my 2005 E90 330i, the garage notified me of some corrosion issues with the rear subframe. I was aware that this was happening but it is now at the point that I need to do something about it.

I will need the left and right pushrods (they are corroded badly) and the rubber bush. BMW bushes are £54 each, so may opt for the cheaper Febi Bilstein ones (£23 each).

I would like advice on how best to deal with the corroded subframe having never delved into this side of the maintenance. Is it an expensive and labour intensive job to have the current subframe blasted and then powdercoated? Are their any specialistss with good reputation for this?
