Are they 100% perfect? No, but they are so much better, honestly it was mildly depressing washing the car, polishing the car and the mirrors never coming up in shine level and then having to look at them, it broke a little bit of my soul every single time, much happier now.
Nice work. These cars are now getting to an age where you're not going ot be finding mint condition stuff on the ebays anymore...so this is what we have to contend with. And mirrors always seem to cop abuse.

With that in mind, I stumbled across a set of mirror caps in my colour in perfect condition, genuine for my F31, so I've bagged them as an insurance policy!

I got mine a couple weeks ago. When I bought the car the bmw badge was completely scratched and caved in so was very happy they changed the whole airbag middle unit including the badge rather than taking it apart!

Free repair!

Ok some updates....

Valve cover gasket change has been booked with my trusted independent for end of March. He will also change the plastic valve cover, and it is Febi gasket kit that he uses. Hopefully once done, it will be the last of my oil leak issues!

Next...I opted for Lemforder tie rod assemblies from ECP https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/336212920835 and received them today. Interestingly, the N/S one has a black finish on the outer tie and is Made in Germany, while the O/S outer tie has a silver finish and is made in Turkiye. All part numbers are correct, and they weigh similar. However, my OCD is not accepting that I fit two steering critical components that are made in different factories and have some visual differences. I have asked ECP to exchange the O/S one to a Made in Germany part. I have an opportunity now to have matching parts rather than regret later, but I do wonder if I am worrying over nothing.

An interesting update about the Lemforder track rod assembly issue. My garage has been waiting a few weeks to get the tool they need to fit them which has meant that these assemblies have been at home doing nothing. As I brought these from ECP ebay site, last night, I got a safety recall message from eBay. In short, the driver side 'Made in Turkiye' assemblies are apparently dangerously defective and should not be used. Here is the recall bulletin ebay issued me: https://globalrecalls.oecd.org/?mkevt=1&mkdid=...

The made in Germany one is fine. I will return the Turkiye one, but not sure where I can get a driver side made in Germany Lemforder one. The options I see are:
1) Passenger side one remains Lemforder (made in Germany), driver side is another brand. I am not sure if mixing brands will present an issue.
2) Return both Lemforder ones, and just buy two the same from another brand. Not sure which brand to go for as I can get Meyle HD, but have heard they are not as good as Lemforder.

I fitted Meyle HD to my e61. They feel great to Me. I mentioned this on a couple of PH threads. Then someone told me confidently that they're sheet because they're made in China. So if you've heard something similar then you decide who you believe and why. Or have these people telling you they're not as good actually tested them and if so how. China is taking over the world in terms of engineering and manufacturing know how. But apparently can't make track control arms. There is a video on YouTube where a guy ordered custom made wheels for his Bugatti Veyron and then tests them using machines and stuff. Guess where they're from? Yes China. I don't think a track control arm is that special, do You?

I'd be going to BMW tbh. If Lemforder are shipping cheap ste for some parts then really the only way to get OEM quality is to go OEM.

I wouldn't be losing any sleep over a mix of (quality) brand track rod ends.

Are you sure this recall covers your track rod?

I also read that and had they already been fitted to the car I would have spent some time investigating whether it does actually affect my specific track rod. I was in a position where I could return and just buy genuine BMW. The eBay recall notice (a separate email which contained above link) did specifically mention the right hand side one, and not the left hand side one for the recall. The genuine BMW one looks the same as the 'Made in Turkiye' but is actually made in Germany and costs almost double the price (£181, vs £96)! These will hopefully be fitted Tuesday.

On another note, yesterday my boot release was working intermittently. It initially wouldn't close properly. Once I got it to shut by pressing boot buttons, it wouldn't open again (via manual key or fob). Then after a drive, it opened and closed fine. I did a quick check of the wiring in rubber duct near the right hinge, and they appeared fine. Boot light also worked fine. Not sure what the issue is but will need to monitor! Any insight about fix from anyone else who has had this issue will be welcomed.

I've got a cracked m spider spoke 193 wheel on the rear that's had too many cracks to repair...
What's the best course of action?
If I get a used one, it'll probably be cracked.
If I get a new one, will it just crack in the future? Is that model prone to cracking?
Is there a different model that's better? I don't care if the rears are different to the fronts.
Bloody potholes...

All 193s are prone to cracks, rears in general. Sadly all factory E9x 18 and 19” rear wheels are prone to cracking. Obviously a brand new wheel will last longer, you can sometimes find new old stock dealer wheels on eBay. Another alternative is a downside to 17s. These are all very strong. The lightest is the forged Style 157:

Run flats?

There are some nice BBS CH 18 inch wheels on ebay which are tough and some OZ Ultraleggera 17 inch too but I'm not allowed to post links without getting posts deleted

I've got a set of 17" wheels with five, wide spokes. Not sure of the model number. I use them for winters.
Problem is, I've already bought new replacement 18" tyres...

Changed the coil on cylinder 6- had to be the furthest back, right?
I had a very 5 cylindery 6 N54/K3, and a P0306 code, one new Bosch coil and all better again. Probably a sign to change the others mind. The car is going to BMR this Friday for a service, brake fluid and MOT and has new PS4S rears going on this week ahead of the MOT. 265 35 19s and not exactly a bargain, but the last set lasted me 20k miles almost, embarrassing really!

Edited to add- as an amateur worker on my cars, and expert at fking then up, I can’t tell you what it means to have diagnosed and fixed it ahead of going to Barry and team at BMR. There is hope!

Another day, another muppet I had to take avoiding action from. Sadly hit a kerb and badly whacked the osr alloy. Tyre is still holding air and got me home but is split quite badly up the inside face where it's hit the rim.

So new tyres booked for Friday fitting and then I'll have to get over to the refurb place to see if the wheel is repairable. And then I need to get it booked in to check tracking.

I've not even got my replacement osf wing on yet from the last muppet (waiting for nicer weather).

And after all of that, it due a few service items.

I was hoping to treat it this year to a few goodies but at this rate it'll cost me enough just to keep it as it is.

Well, I have had to deal with so many nuggets trying to sell my car, you'd think a clean 330i/6 92 would fly out the door, but apparently not, and after going through loads with someone asking about stuff that isn't broken and shows no signs of breaking, if its been done and blah blah blah etc, then helping a mate out who runs a BMW specialist shop, and loads of people coming up and asking who owns that 92, and how is it so clean, and then wondering why am I selling it? So I treated myself to a new knob, and it has honestly transformed the car, and today I got a wash on the go, windows down, sun out, music on, new knob and I will enjoy the cleanest 92 manual 330i out there that needs nothing, it wants for nothing, there wont be another one out there like it, even buying it back in a few years it'll probably be a dog with some stty mods, so I think I might buy myself a cheap £600 stter and just keep the 92, anyway, obligatory knob photos, why did these not come with the 39/46 knob? It takes out the clunk and notchiness, just need to attach the gaiter

Those last 2 posts make good sense. Of all the alternatives I'd be looking for an N52 engined E93 or an E88 125i with a remap to 130i power.

The N52 engine really is great - I'm on my 4th now. Someone on here (I can't remember where he posted) has an E91 330i that has done 400K miles, and there is an E86 Z4 owner who has one with over 223K on it.
A couple of months ago I was on this v helpful thread asking newbie questions about 6-cylinder engines. Just to follow up, I ended up buying one. Won't derail this thread but in case of interest I've written up a readers' cars thread, link below. Appreciate the advice I got here, thanks

Didn't even get a week out of my knob, unfortunately she is dead, absolutely well and truly gutted, insurance reckon that it's only worth £2500, I have asked them to come back when they find me an E92 M sport 330i 6 speed manual, with under 130k miles, with immaculate servicing and history, so far they haven't found one, holding my guns at £7500, even then I think it's too cheap as we all know these do not exist like.

What a shame.
Sod's law. Was it full of fuel too?

I assume the plan is to to keep it as part of the settlement?
I assume 'all' it needs is a partial rear quarter and a door?

What happened?

No I was on my way to put fuel in, insurance classing it as a CAT N, and have offered me £2300 if I keep the car, or £3024 if they take it, I am currently awaiting the engineer who came up with that number to call, because I would like to him to find me a 330i/6 M sport with all the st bits done, under 130k miles for £3000....actually I would like him to find any E92 330i/6 for that price, probably be an ombudsman job I think now.

Basically my street has a sharp right hand natural bend on the road, with a car park on the opposite side of that bend, and someone decided to go straight on as I was round the corner.

Will fight this one as the car doesn't exist on the open market, I am not accepting less than £7500, I am going to try and get it transported to my mates unit so Copart don't attempt to turn up and take it.
