mad

Washed my wife's Mineral White X1 yesterday... took me three and a half hours!!

Each of the thousands of individual fly poops has to be rubbed at or scratched with a fingernail to remove it. This is entirely due to it being a white car. My son's red Mini on the same drive isn't touched at all, neither is my silver Cayman.

In summary...

DON'T BUY A MINERAL WHITE BMW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Put some sort of coating on it? Would be interested to know if a ceramic coating like CQuartz UK would prevent such sticking.

At purchase it was clayed; polished; cleansed; waxed with AG GT Wax. I appreciate this isn't a "coating" but flies seem to have a fairly adhesive poop. I've posted before that someone should make a polish with a fly repellent in it. Solve the problem before it occurs!

I'm getting déjà vu. Didn't you post this exact thread a few months ago?

Flies seem to love sitting on white and yellow cars, they then st on them leaving loads of little black spots which when dry can be bloody hard to get off.

My first 335d was Space Grey, and it was great for hiding the dirt. Current one is sapphire black, which isn't so good, but the Double Speed Wax I put on seems to be doing a pretty good job - it's great watching the water just roll off the bonnet.

Have you tried claying or using tar remover to get them off? Can appreciate it's annoying but might save time.

Tried AG tar remover Sunday. Doesn't touch them!

Is that to remove the poops or, having "citrus" in the name, is it supposed to repel insects as many repellants have a citrus base?

The citrus cuts through bug juice but doesn't deteriorate your coatings.

When I'm cleaning windows (not the song it's actually my job) I find the best solution to fly and fly dirt is Virosol. It's a Citric Acid based cleaner that you buy undiluted. A well diluted mix in a spray bottle applied AFTER you wet the offending area should remove it without any trouble. Don't leave it on long though as modern paint durability seems rather poor due to its Polar Bear Friendliness.

Strangely my window cleaner (no, Strangely isn't his name) is due today. I'll ask him if he has the bottle to tackle some fly dirt.

Get yourself a clay bar and detail spray. It will have that off in no time. You can get a clay bar off Amazon for less than £5. I detailed my wife's Evoque yesterday (first time I've done any detailing - hence the wife's car being first smile ) and the clay bar worked a treat on dried bugs, tar spots etc. I was surprised how well it worked, and it's paint friendly. The clar bar process doesnt take long, it sounds fancy but its just a great way of getting crap like that off your car.

An excellent product, spray all over the car and leave to dwell for a few minutes then jetwash off, really good at removing all sorts of dirt.

Flies don't poop, they sick.

I'm fairly sure that it's quite acidic too as they digest food outside of their bodies in these puddles.

The solution is to not buy a car that in tight git white which is the exact colour flies like to sick up all over hehe

Erm... Mineral White is a £550 cost option, not the standard "tight git" Alpine white.

I thought a clay bar will strip the finish off leaving no paint protection? Otherwise, what's the point in using a clay bar to remove contaminants (e.g. old waxes and dirt)?

Using a clay bar means I'm back to square one, then having to cleanse, polish, wax, all over again.

The AutoFinesse stuff looks like a possibility.
