M4 praise thread!
Discussion
So I’m on my second M4 - this time it’s a comp pack M4 manual to replace my standard M4 manual.
So - first off - I’m definite that the non comp car is more exciting to drive. It’s edgy and naughty and just so spikey. It felt faster than the comp for sure.
Secondly - the comp is “better” - whatever that means. It doesn’t bite as hard and is easier to hustle hard.
Third - both are just absolutely fantastic cars. I wanted to post because I saw a gent on another thread on here almost sheepishly admit that he had fallen for the M4 despite it being a “marmite car” and I just think that’s unfair and, Sir, you’re allowed to love your M4!
Finally - I have a few cars knocking around - 991 gt3, 360, z4, Caterham and stuff and I’ll tell you right now that if I had to sell them and only have one car it would, without doubt, be the M4. The combination of every element of its performance means it just beats every other car for me. Even seeing my nine year old love the infotainment and the fact he can have his mates back to the house when we take the M4 somehow adds to the appeal!
So yes I know all this makes me also a bit of an M4 fanboy but you know what I’m pleased to be in that club!

Yup, love my M4, exciting cars no doubt...
Yes you're right about the performance, all comp pack cars are slower off the mark than originals, (checkout the test figures), and I believe that BMW have lowered the boost in the lowest gears to make them more driveable..
Personally, I just moderate the throttle a bit...

Yes gents that’s interesting. The old car (Feb 2016) definitely felt like it had that real turbo old fashioned torque wave to it low down. The new one is an April 2017 car so it’s probably the latest one. It’s truly spectacular as a package and still proper fast but a fraction easier to moderate on boost out of turns.
I don’t miss the earlier car but the new one is definitely no more desirable even though on paper it’s more “competent”. It’s for sure a little easier as a pilot but given that I grew up without stability controls and no other nonsense I always run 100% with them off anyway and I never minded the old car being a bit more hairy!
In respect of the gearbox I take my time with the shifts, get them nice and precise and then get back on the power. The fact it will pull from like 30mph in sixth makes me laugh when I hear comments suggesting that the dual clutch is the only choice. I believe that this car represents some kind of zenith in manual rear wheel drive coupedom that we might not quite see again.
I get into the GT3 and it’s proper fast once the motor is spinning but on the road it’s just very difficult to exploit and almost every single time I drive them* back to back I wind up thinking “you know what, the M4 is a more impressive road car”

- ok so I’ll admit that on rare occasions when the road is properly clear and of a high twisty quality and you can left foot brake the GT3 it’s just phenomenal but I’m afraid that’s 5% of the time.
- Ferrari 360 wins for “clack-clack” gated gearchange but even with that NA v8 for me the natural hooligan in the M4 takes it on head to head for driver fun in the real world!
I also love my M4 "jumping on the fanboy band wagon"
mines a 2016 non comp pack, thinking of moving over to an individual comp pack M4 around feb/March and going through the process of peripheral vision at the moment just to make sure im making the right move. Considered GTR, F Type, Various porsches, even had a look over on the chav side of Evo's and Impreza's.
The GTR is tempting but i dont think i can get away from the fact the M4 is such an all rounder. I take mine on track, daily commute, family outings with 2 kids etc etc, it just does everything.
my only dithering point at present is paint. mines mineral white and the only "standard" colour i like so heading down the individual route next time. leaning towards san marino blue but java green keeps entering my thoughts. it will be lowered, wheels changed, full MP package etc so needs to look special.
i think they call these first world problems lol
