Looking for a cheapish 4 seat convertible and keep coming back to the 630i or 635d.

2007/8 630’s seem to be about £9k for a decent one and 635d seems to be about £13k for a decent one.

The diesel worth the money ?

And are there anything’s that need to be looked out for ?

Whilst from memory the 635d is the better drive can’t help but feel that there is much more to go wrong with the diesel ?

Any views very welcome

Thanks

I`m a 640d owner.

I`d go for a petrol if you`re considering a convertible.

With the window open it still sounds like a tractor.

P.S. get the V8!! But make sure it`s not leaking oil (coming from a previous 645ci owner).

Yep it is a convertible I am after, don’t want a 650 or 645 as I had one years ago and they drank like Oliver reed !!

Had a 640d myself and didn’t get on with it, but just want a cheap run about now, don’t want a 3 series as I understand they crack wheels constantly

Going to see a couple this week and see what happens

Completely agree with this, if I had a diesel convertible I'd rather set fire to it than actually drive it, I can't understand why anyone would enjoy listening to a diesel engine with the roof off.

Not sure which engine the 630i had at that point, but if it's the N52 then it's worth considering. If it's the N53 then steer well clear. The N53 engined car I had was a reliability nightmare (N52 is 258bhp, N53 is 272bhp).

I'd imagine the 635d would be a lot quicker though.

I was looking for a 645 earlier this year and looked into the 630i's and there really wasn't much in it with the mpg. I bought an E63 then which used to get 33mpg on a run and 23mpg around town. I've since then sold that and bought and picked up an E64 645 yesterday. The sound of the V8 is awesome. Yeah, they have oil leaks and electrical issues from time to time but they are a lot of car for the money.

not a particularly good time to buy a diesel, regardless of whether any of the restrictions on diesels are implemented whilst you own it you might expect them to affect resale value.

i have a 645i and a 650i search on my Ebay account which I am constantly checking. Not that Im going to buy one but I like to keep an eye on them,
