I was wondering if there are any BMW Dealer Used Car Salesmen on here? I have a question about the flexibility you have on AUC Warranty extensions to more than 1 year..........

Occasionally BMW have promotions where they offer free 24 month AUC Warranty instead of the usual 12 month. How easy is it to get this if there isn't a promotion on? It seems like getting blood from a stone with a recent negotiation I am involved in......

Also will there be any such 24 month warranty promotion this coming Black Friday?

I am not a salesman, but got an email from rybrook warrick who are offering 24 months on auc over Black Friday weekend, worth a look.

I would also be interested to know how difficult it is to extend the warranty to 24 months, might be useful on my next car

I got a 24 month AUC warranty back in the summer - I just had to ask for it.

There seemed to be a bit of reluctance on their part initially, but it was offered by both of the dealers I was negotiating with.

I got a full 12 month warranty on the 3 year old F11 5 series touring I bought last month, from Coopers in Reading, on the Monday I asked them if I could extend another 12 months they said yes £799 so I did.

I bought a 14 plate f11 last week and had no trouble negotiating a 2 year warranty as part of the deal. The paperwork says the cost to them was £600

I tried with Vines of Redhill on a 12 plate 640d and they wouldn't do it - even if I paidf for it! Something to do with them being a franchise dealer which didn't really make sense.

The price put against my warranty extension was £420... it sounds a bit like they make it up as they go along.

I work for a BMW dealer in sales, I believe it has something to do with FCA regulation and only being able to offer whichever warranty the car is advertised with. It's a pain to set up and most dealers I have worked for don't know how. I now work for Marshall and we offer our own in house extended warranty, which starts after the BMW warranty ends, and covers the same bits and has breakdown with at home recovery. So I should imagine most of the big groups will do something similar.

Hope that helps smile

I asked the same question when buying my 640d from Rybrook.

It’s worked out in my favour as the mileage was just under 60k at the time I bought the BMW insured warranty that costs £77pm for as long as I want it to continue, it is not an annual policy.

If it went over 60k the same warranty would be £140pm instead.

The next big step is 100k.

So it has actually worked in my favour this time

It amazes me how few salesmen know they can do this - they can and it's well worth getting because even if you have to pay them cost for it, it's still a saving over the price you'd pay to renew it (and it's a better product).

I believe the cost to the dealers is £300 pa, so that would be correct. I recently asked for an extra year as part of a deal at a Surrey dealer who said it wasn't possible, even to pay for it, I was told the same thing at Williams Manchester.

Makes you wonder why BMW don't just sell cars with a 5yr warranty for about £500 more when new.

Well I am in discussions over a car costing £31k and the only thing they need to do to close the deal is extend the warranty and they won't do it. They won't even let me pay the cost of it - they are adamant that they cannot add the extra warranty.

From what I know the AUC warranty doesn’t cover wear and tear, but the extended BMW (theone you get online/after) does upto 100k if you take the fully comp, worth a look what the cover differences are if warranty is important to you

I managed to get a 12month warranty on AUC and then an extended 2 year warranty after that expires from a Cooper BMW dealer

Interesting statement from the dealer. I purchased my current car in February, and was offered a 12 month extension of the AUC warranty (from 12 to 24 months) for £399 or so. As I'd want the warranty anyway, it was a no brainer - much cheaper than buying it later on.

AUC warranty info is here, and lists the following exclusions:
BMW warranty site said:
The only items not covered by the comprehensive BMW Approved Used Car Warranty are:

This BMW Approved Used Car warranty does not cover corrosion.
Extended warranty info is here and lists these exclusions:
BMW extended warranty site said:
  • All exhaust components (except catalytic converter)
  • All service items which will require periodic replacement
  • Any item that has worn out which has covered more than 100,000 miles
  • Auxiliary drive belts
  • Batteries - including BMW i3 and BMW i8 high voltage and auxiliary batteries
  • Brake and clutch facings
  • Bulbs and fuses
  • Channels and guides
  • Cleaning or adjustment of any component/carbon/soot buildup
  • Coolant and fuel hoses
  • Discs and drums
  • Glass
  • Handles, hinges and check straps
  • Trim, upholstery and cosmetic finishes
  • Wheels and tyres
  • Wiper blades and arms
  • Weather strips and seals
Levels are broadly the same, but the AUC one also covers batteries and the catalytic converter.

Ive just come out of the 1 years warranty i got with my f31, ive gone on to the rolling month extended warranty. As wear and tear wasnt covered and is now, would i be able to claim for the cracking in the leather on my steering wheel??

Would have thought they’d have sorted that under the AUC cover to be honest...
