Hi just had my battery changed at Battery Specialist, Gillingham, kent. Saved £100 on Eurocarpart on an AGM Exide and Dean will fit and code in for £10. Quality service we all need to share.
I've been using Exides for years and so far they have been very good. IME they are hardier than some of the pricier Bosches too.SebringMan said:

Funny you say that. I had a new battery on my Z4 last winter and my BMW Indy fitted an Exide - apparently they make the OEM ones (I'd have had money on Bosch)!

They do indeed!I had a new battery on my Z4 last winter and my BMW Indy fitted an Exide - apparently they make the OEM ones (I'd have had money on Bosch)!
I know of a couple of manufacturers who fit them to their own cars. Whether it's the same as what you get from the dealer is another question.
The fact however is this. I've very rarely had an Exide fail me and I've even had some of those go down to 9V and recover. Thanks Pug 306 alternator! It did live its life out in the MGB with a sporadic alt until I changed it ; again, fine. That must have been a 5 year old battery too! As you can tell, I put a good battery in the Pug once I fitted a new alternator and kept the Exide for the MG/as a spare.
I know of 5 Bosch S5s that have failed, two of which I have owned, and one of them a mate who had one on a low mileage Evo VI being on an Optimate conditioner. S3s have been fine. Would I buy an S5 again? No chance. OTOH the warranty did come in handy!
