I’ve just picked up a 523i for my daily commute, issue I am currently having is a non working speedo with accompanying abs/asc lights on. Using google it pointed to a rear passenger side speed sensor. Which I had replaced, but it did not help.
So to avoid throwing money at it I bought a bmw scanner, this threw up rear passenger side sensor!! I’ve had another look and the sensor looks like it’s fitted correctly? Now my question is if the abs ring was damaged would it throw up a more specific code? Or have I just bought a duff sensor??

If it was made after 9/98, the fault will almost certainly be a shagged ABS module. Should be a Bosch 001 unit on an old 523i with ASC. 50 quid used, 20 mins to fit, no coding needed.

I didn't have the ABS lights but the dash cluster on mine stopped working when the battery was slightly under voltage... could be worth a check?

I have scanned it again and came back with rear left speed signal....another new sensor? Or wheel bearing?

After scanning the car again and the fault being rear passenger speed signal, I had the wheel bearing changed, with abs ring contained in it. And still the fault exists! Mechanics don’t seem to know what to do next!
