I don't seem to be having much luck at the minute with niggles but disaster was avoided with this.

In the end I managed to get the sunroof closed and I'm not daring to touch it again but it was repeatedly refusing to close from the tilt position.

When trying to close it would initially move to the closed position then immediately raise again to tilt. It wouldn't slide open either, only again close and then tilt.

By chance I eventually got it to slide open so then I immediately tried to close it and it worked. Like I said I'm not risking touching it again but any ideas on what's likely to be the issue?

It’s essentially the same mechanism as the e53’s etc. I’ve got the same issue and it’s a common one. In short, the way the mechanism works works in on springs under tension on tracks, these break and normally just one side.

Sadly not a cheap nor easy fix. It should still retract but you won’t be able to tilt it?

That doesn't sound the same then as this only wanted to stay tilted until it finally wanted to close. I could see an anti-trap sensor working in this context assuming it's a potential fault.
