Hi,

Im looking at getting wheel spacers for my BMW purely for looks!!..

I am getting coil-overs aswel.. ive read that these are usually bought hand in hand with each other??

Please could I have some suggestions of good size wheel spacers to get? i feel like 10-15 ml would be too small as i like the look of a wider wheel spread for my car.

Anyway im really new with spacers and coil-overs so I am looking for peeps with E46's that have a good set up that I could copy for my car.

Please help, every time I put a post on here, I always get good advice so I really appreciate real E46 fans for advice on these things.

I bought mine (for a Z4) from CM wheels - has a whole section over on M3cutters - different sizes, finishes and bolts and decent customer service..

http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=6...

Went with 12 front and 15 rear...tried 15 and 20 and it just stuck out too much on the rears.

It will depend on the wheels you've currently got. Between 3mm and 15mm is pretty normal for OEM wheels, though it does depend on specific design.
You'll probably find that 10mm makes a bigger difference than you think. This is an M-sport E46 with 10mm front and 12mm rear

Looking at that I don't think you could go much bigger on the rear without risking catching the arch, not on the standard M-Sport 18"s anyway.

Just seen the picture of your E46 in the other thread!

Depending on your tyres, you will scrub at the back on an E46 saloon. I changed to PS4s and because of the big tyre wall, had to remove my spacers entirely. I now only run 12mm on the front..

Unless you want to go about rolling arches - you'd be brave to given the rust situation of most E46's.

The steering will get heavier and more self-centring the wider you go at the front.

Also an argument that wider track puts more load on the wheel bearings.

The looks come at a price.

What wheel spacer size fits on e46? are all e46s the same when it comes to wheel spacer fitment size? I dont mean the width of the spacer, i mean the centre circle that sits next to the brake disk. im looking on ebay but i have absolutely no idea what fits my car??

Im sat on MV2 alloys with 225/40/18 all round.

Please help smile

AFAIK all E46 have the same hub spacing and PCD so any spacer advertised for an E46 should fit.
Eibach do 10mm spacers at £70-something a pair though I don't know if they come with the longer bolts (you'll need longer bolts)

E46 has 5x120 PCD and 72.5mm hub details.

Therefore you need the spacer to match this offset and hub measurement (hub centric).

If you have sport spec suspension and stock MV2s running 225/40/18 at the front and 255/35/18 at the rear, then as per my car and previous post, there is very little room for anything at the rear without scrubbing (at least with a boot full or passengers). If you have a stretch tyre or little sidewall you may get away with 12mm but I have Pilot Sport 4s and there is no room. (E46 cannot take 10mm spacer at the rear due the depth of the hub and the design of such a 10mm spacer).

Up front, you can run 10, 12 or 15mm. I personally run 12mm up front, anything more looks too odd compared to the rear.

I run these up front - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-X-12MM-BIMECC-BMW-HUB...

Of course with extended wheel bolts.

This is my BMW, im sat on standard suspension at the mo, due to get coilovers end of month. My tyres are XL Conti Contact 5's.

Tyres arnt stretched.

So would 10mm all round give me a good look?

As mentioned, you can't get a 10mm spacer at the rear for E46 due to the hub size and geometry of a 10mm spacer. You can get 12mm as the minimum, but I think you will be scrubbing, especially with coilovers.

Here is mine with nothing at the rear and 12mm at the front.

Probably Not applicable to your vehicle, but my e93 Msport convertible is sat on tpi 12mm front and 20mm rear and also eibach springs. Rear catches ever so slightly if cornering hard and going quickly over a dip in the road. I would go below 10mm as I believe there’s no out edge/lip on spacers themselves. To be honest I preferred the ride before spacers, seed a lot more agile but looked horrid has I’m running 18 inch 8.0j front, 8.5j back

Seems odd to me. The cars don’t look any different really unless you know they’re fitted and have cars to compare, IMO.

Why alter the geometry and put extra loads on bearings etc for something that makes so little difference?

I'm not a fan of spacers - I'd rather just change the wheels!

My E86 Z4 has E89 wheels. Because of the different offsets the fronts sit 18mm further out and the rears 10mm further out - works for me! Same sizes, but fronts are ET29 instead of ET47, rears are ET40 instead of ET50.

The summers on my E91 came off an F3*, and also look better.

Standard E46 wheels have the same offsets as E85/6 Z4s, so you could get similar results with E9*, F3* or E89 wheels.
