Update on latest recalls for E90 and E86
Discussion
Had the letter for my E82 a couple of months ago, just telling me they were aware of the issue and to await further instructions - unless I had any symptoms (like car switching itself off) then I should take it in.
Still not heard anything, but as the car is running fine, I'll pass on the 2 hours drinking posh coffee for now. I'll only end up coming out with a 340i Touring and a divorce anyway

One of my customers has just been given the all clear from a dealer saying its safe to use till the cable/mod arrives 2007 320d they was taking round europe
To be fair, I bet 99.999999999% of the cars would never have the problem. Mine was over 100k miles when it was fixed p1stonhead said:

I got a letter from BMW about my E91 back in June, but had already contacted Sytner because of what I had read. Sytner allegedly had no parts and added me to a waiting list - but I've yet to hear from them! Today I got another letter from BMW - maybe there are some parts out there, or are they just covering their a*se?
My E91 is on 135K miles and hasn't caught fire yet! But now I've said that, maybe tomorrow.
I got the recall done on my E91 on Tuesday.
Booked a waiting appointment so I had a coffee, read their papers and watched the TV.
Because I didn't want it washed it was done in an hour - seemed good to me!
But unless there is another recall I think that may be my car's last visit to a main agent.

Rang when I was off sick the other week to sort mine they got it in the next day and I collected it the following day as I didnt need it. Cleaned, sorted and health checked at the same time. Simple really.
All the muppets on the facebook page to do with E shape bmws are moaning as they demand cars to keep them going etc and then as they cant get one want compensation - get a grip.

Had my second letter for the blower recall, requesting that I contact a dealer to arrange the work. Car is 2006 330i with 90k miles.
Wondering if I need to bother.
Not doing it would presumably affect insurance if it ever does catch fire. Unlikely, given it's been fine so far.
Also would show outstanding recall on HPI when I sell.
Doing it means letting them pull the dash apart at least once - they tend never to go back quite the same way.
They might also find or cause other problems by disturbing things that have been left alone and working for over a decade.

No reason everything should not go back together as it was Wondering if I need to bother.

Got it done no problems. Turns out the fix was required, they had informed me part would be in stock regardless before I booked it in.
Great service. Car valeted, taxis home and back to collect it paid for. Just about managed not to have a sit in their M1/240is while I was waiting for it to arrive!

Mine went in last week.
I'm in the process of retrofitting iDrive at the moment so just left the glovebox off. Took them about 30 mins to swop the cable over.
Chap seemed very appreciative that i'd made it easy for them, i got the impression most owners he sees know precisely f*ck all about cars

Well I got the recall letter just now even though I had it done 6 months ago and I’ve since traded it in to BMW when I bought a new car
You'll never hear the last of it though! I got a text from Sytner to remind me my E46 is needing an MOT - except I sold it in February and they had never serviced or MOTd it! Although they did do the 2 airbag recalls.
Just had the E91 heater motor recall done at the same garage (finally) so I expect more nonsense.
Maybe I just need to ask them when they plan to do a recall for E91 fuel tank vent leaks.
